high milage cars

i have just recently come back to the UK from abroad and grabbed a taxi at the airport, as you do.

in the cab, i got speaking to the driver and asked him about his merc. (C220 on Personal plate). as we drove, i asked him what he liked about it most. i mentioned the milage. he was currently at 628,000 miles! he said his last one did 500,000. he said he'd not drive any other car.

what high milage have you seen any of these cars do?

would you be put off buying a merc diesel / petrol if it had high milage?

I would not buy one with 600k on but i would certainly take one there if i liked the car.

in a nut shell Mercedes do the mileage providing you get them serviced
and maintained, thats why every taxi in europe is a Merc !

Would prefer a high mileage diesel rather than a petrol as long as I knew its history . Just my opinion
I have been in a Toyota with over 500000 mls which had one owner from new and had 7 new clutches , oil and filter changed every 6 mths from new .

MB's don't hold a monopoly on high mileage ....... when EmilysMum's MB engined Smart Roadster came home on the back of a Renault flat bed, I noted the 'mileage' on the clock. 850 000km on the clock ...... on its second time round.

Interesting when I was having my winter tyres fitted at the local place chatted to a taxi chap having 2 tyres fitted, he had a c200cdi on a 55plate, he was asking about the space in mine etc, he said his was second hand and required a new engine at 150k miles and a rebuild on that one after 20k miles...he was self servicing and someone else had run the car dry on oil

Like anything it's history and how they've been treated.

Just as having drove all types of vechiles for over 35 yrs the bigger engine always done best for me I m o I think the bigger engine does not have to work as hard .. If I had to buy a five year old 2.0 ltr car with 160000 mls or. 3.2 ltr with the same miles ,both with full history I would chose the bigger one each time.
This is just what I have found i m o .

Our E class is closer to 300k on the clock (291) and i was looking forward to seeing her get to the 300k under our ownership ...will have to leave that for her new owner...awsome cars!!

I used Mercs for taxis for the last 30 years, every one of them did over 500k miles.
The last 2 were Vitos, the body gave up before the engine on these 2 and they both had the original turbos on them.
