Hot news - your history..
Wonder why this has all started over the last couple of weeks. has one of our members computers been hacked
spammers like these target any forum that is popular, and it's difficult if nearly impossible to stop them
on my own forums i force the members to validate their membership via email, that cuts out a lot of spammers as they generally use false email addresses
however some do get through, and the next step is to outright ban certain email address's
the following is a list of banned ip/email addresses and hostnames that have attempted to spam my forums, some have succeeded some not
I am being targeted by many of those, can I set anything on my computer to block them
When you receive an E Mail ( and you want to ban the sender.)
Highlight the message, go to "Message"and click "Block Sender"
or use gmail (http://www.gmail.com) which will do it for you automagically
i still have 95 invites left
They can also get the list of all sites from Vbulletin where they list all the legitimate Vbulletin sites or so I am informed by my son, who has some experience of adapting them for different users.
Guys & Gals,
I hate to say this but everytime you reply on an obviously spam post all you do it move it back to the top again (BTTT) which gives it even more publicity.
Bugger just done it myself
Thank you Tony, oh to turn the thing on and not have to delete 50 a day.
use an isp that highlights spam in the subject field.
then use your mail program options to put anything with "spam" in the title to send the offending mail to the junk bin.
I will do that too.
To NorthDownsMerc The post may have gone to the top again, but its done wonders for me
Then maybe spam posts do have a value after all !!
i still have 95 GMAIL invites
if you want one (and who doesn't)
contact me on msn messenger
