How much for a vacuum pump ?

I have a friend who has a 1994 S280. His central locking has packed up and he has been told that its the vacuum pump. He has been quoted around £500 for a new one. Is this a reasonable figure ?

Very easy to run 12 volts to it, to see if it runs and sucks. I faulty I think a breaker is a much cheaper way out, these do not give much problem.
