As there are less AMG's on the road than the diesels it follows that there are more accidents with the diesels.
Flippin dangerous these diesel drivers.

I insure with MB Insurance. Each year I ask why my premiums have gone either up or down and they always tell me its to do with the statistics of how many claims have been made on that specific model. I'd suggest more claims on a 320 than the AMG. Good for you though, long may it last.

I've insured my 1995 C180 with Footman James as a second car on a classic policy for £137. Limited to 3000 miles, then I bought a 1992 190e, phoned them for a quote, they have only charged me £35 to include it on my policy which includes a £25 admin fee! So only a tenner. When I asked why so cheap, they said you can only drive one a a time so not a greater risk for us. I thought I should share this.

been with RH insurance for years. have a classic car policy with them paying £60 for unlimited milage and breakdown cover. added my modern car to it and it has bumped it up to £100 a year.

so that's my Mercedes and my classic Austin for £100 a year fully comp including breakdown cover.

£60 for an unlimited mileage policy? Are you kidding. I've got two cars on seperate Classic policies at Lancaster between £100 - £200 per annum, but with 3000 limit on both. I've tried a few places for the my W208 230 conv and lowest i've found is £246 with 3000 limit at Pete Best and it must be garaged overnight. Nearest regular insurer with a normal mileage allowance was around £675.

What / who are RH insurance?

For the record.. my mileage is dropping from 21k/annum to 7k/annum

It drops my insurance by £60.. in about £300. (I'm early 40s)

Looks like the "financial risk of accident" is quite low, the car just sitting there is far more problematic... perhaps AMGs are less popular amongst car thieves?.. do they have superior anti-theft devices?

Just got my renewal through and it's certainly not as cheap as some on here, though I'm still pleased with it, even if it has gone up a bit from last year.

< £750 fully comp, class 1 business use anywhere in Europe with protected no claims.

1 x SP50 (exceeding motorway speed limit) from a couple or three years ago and all modifications declared. I think that this was the one that hurt it a bit. :D

I think that's reasonable Dave, considering you've modded a 550bhp plus, 200mph machine ,and you have an SP50.

Well I am genuinely amazed......
I phoned this morning to change vehicle details from CLK320 Cdi to CLK63 and the woman said "we shall credit your account with the £42 rebate".
I triple checked that she had her facts correct...
its made my day...
I asked how much to start afrezh and she said £418:D

It's quite crazy, my CLK55 convertible costs me around 260 a year fully comp with 8 years NCB assigned to it.

The annoying thing is I have another 7 years to move from another car but no one will merge them though, so I may have to get another cheap toy to put it on!

I am not sure how much of a difference it makes though after 5 years NCB.

Oh and that is with 14k per year SDP, but I have a clean license (touch wood, the SP30 has gone now!).

no. the conditions state it has to be garaged and you have to be a club member. it went up in june this year £3.

Flippin dangerous these diesel drivers.

That was my logic as well....

Many diesels are company owned/run - and so many such drivers are definitely less concerned about how they treat the cars; hence more claims....

.....Whereas the AMG drivers - as with many sports and classic car drivers - invest a lot of money in buying their own cars; so treat them better and drive them more carefully. Hence less claims.

I pay less to insure my 2013 SLK350 than most of my friends do for their 5+ year old Focusses, Astras, Fiestas etc......;)

Thank you Sir,

The SP50 was in my Audi S8. 0820 on a Sunday morning on an otherwise dead M56 coming back from N Wales. I wasn't in the best of moods and passed the unmarked 3 series at a speed slightly in excess of twice the legal limit. I then moved back into lane one and backed off substantially as I realised I was being a bit stupid. Got onto the M6 and said BMW put the blue lights on. I stopped as soon as I could, asked to sit in his car and he suggested that the speed was between 90 - 95. No argument, quite happy with that.

And, just for you John, he asked me what sort of car it as as there were no badges on it. :p

Had to transfer the insurance to my new car today.

Previously I'd got a quote but been a little careless, just mentioning age mileage etc.

I'd been quoted an additional £120 to transfer, when doing it for real the price jump was only £80

The difference?.. the colour!

Green > Metallic-pale-gold when it comes to insurance.

It has been said that green cars are at more of a risk as they can be confused in the hedge rows in the countryside. Many years ago when green was very popular it was near impossible to sell green cars to country folk.
