can't work out what part you mean - can you post a pic?

Yes I need more info on this please.

Hi
Finally managed to get a couple of pics - excuse the quality, they are from my mobile.

I've annotated them to show what I mean. Hopefully you can now see the difference between one side and the other.

Cheers

Something very not right there - this is mine and it is very difficult to compare, but there's no plug where yours seems to have one

Just been out for a closer look at mine - there is what could be called a plug but it's been a part of the moulding process - it doesn't look to have been fitted after (might have been - different texture) but it looks like someone has removed/cut out on yours.

I'd say without a doubt that the opening should be completely sealed with something - possibly build up gradually with silicone sealant but don't overdo it & fill up the void behind.

Thanks. Looking at the seals straight on, mine look like yours in the first 2 pics (your pics). You're right in that the one on the left of mine is missing. On the right it is part of the moulding - it looks like they are there so they can be removed from the channel and then put back in. But one is missing.

I'll see if I can find something to fashion one from. Hoping I've got a bit of spare rubber (as they say!).

If you are not in too much of a hurry (Christmas shops shut etc) you could make something the right shape out of foam then paint it with plasti-dip regular and plug it in while the coating is wet

http://www.plastidip.co.uk/product/junior-can-250ml - it's amazingly useful stuff that dries like rubber

This got me thinking about mine, so i just popped into the garage to have a look and mine is exactly the opposite to rexemper's the 'bung' is missing from the right side (drivers). I gave it a pull on the left side 'bung' and it came out! From looking at davids pictures there is meant to be two so i will try and fabricate something too to block the right hand side hole. If you look at my picture the 'bung' is a small piece of round foam.

Quick update - I made a 'bung' out of washer hose and covered it with black insulation tape to get it to the right sort of size. That should as a temporary fix.

I ideally need to dig out some foam type material from somewhere and use that. I know I have something somewhere....

It is a bit bizarre, but there you go.

On another point - are you (Malcolm) still up for doing the seals for people? My boot isn't leaking but I'd like to get them done and would rather they were done properly. Basically, don't trust myself to do it!

Cheers

Um have you tried Steve at Avantgarde Sally I believe he is at Clevedon North Somerset and posts on here. Nice car by the way, I keep mine inside mostly during the winter in case it rains ! I think my seals have been done as it never leaks. The other thing to do is check the heater box is dry.

Where in Somerset are you. I am near Sherborne and did early fixes with Malcolm so I have some experience, although rather ancient as I last did this years ago on my sl350

Hopefully my new sl400 won't need this

If the weather is nice maybe we can meet at the Haynes museum breakfast meet first Sunday of February as I see you are near Taunton so that's not too far
