Being LHD wont make any difference to part numbers.

Clunking will be drop links and/or bottom ball joints.

Not sure of the part numbers but giving your VIN to the parts department ensures that yo get the right ones.

They are such a common failure the parts department will have a bag of them the last time I bought some they did.

Make sure you get your bushes from mercedes - they are vastly cheaper! (£2.80/PAIR - Compared with pattern part £9.00Pair)

Easy job to do with couple of stands. You may need some soap for the mount bushes,as the merc ones are solid and take some working on.

Thanks for the info. I got the correct parts from our local MB dealer and I'll be attempting to change them this weekend.

I've got a set of ramps, so hopefully it'll be fairly dry outside.

I am just about to do this job (ARB bushes and drop links), together with replacing track rod ends, but I noticed today when doing the track rod ends that on my car (E200K estate) there is a pipe run of some sort going beneath the ARB just by the nearside bush mounting. It looks like a fuel pipe or similar with an armoured flexi section looping under the ARB (or it maybe something to do with the self-levelling suspension). This pipe was not mentioned in the original post or shown in the photo so I assume that whatever it is, it is model specific. I will need to disconnect it in order to drop the ARB. Any idea what it is?

That's the main 12v power connection cable. You don't need to remove it to remove the ARB, but likewise you don't need to remove the ARB mounts to replace the drop links, which are what normally clunk.

Well... the big T50 bolts came out no problem. I ran into trouble with the 13mm ones. The first one came out ok, it was actually a bit loose (perhaps that is what was causing the clunking), but the second one, the that is a bit harder to reach, I managed to strip.

The space is so small that I'm not sure how to get it out!

"It looks like a fuel pipe or similar"
That was the bit that confused me.
I still don't remember any problem though.

An update... a real mechanic, not a weekend warrior like myself, was able to extract the rounded bolt using a stud extractor.

After that, it went just like the DIY instructions.

The bushing in the old drop arm (right side) was really compressed. It looked like a different size/part compared to the new one.

After putting it all together a road test confirmed that it was in fact the drop arm that was making that clunking noise. Whew! I didn't fancy the idea of getting the ball joints replaced at this point.

Just fitted new drop links on my W210, world of difference, no knocking and feels much nicer to drive, thanks for the OP tutorial.

Yup, did mine too - thanks for the 'how to' very useful.

Ride at the front is firmer and more subdued going into corners, well worth the effort.

When I changed my drop links i used silicone grease to fit them so nothing attacked the rubber and they fitted easily.
A wide bolster chisel pushed them on easily.
I levered off the shocker with a sheet of steel to protect the shock absorber.

Fitting anti roll bar rubbers a while ago I made sure the bar was very clean and they fitted well.

I have now rebushed, springed and shockered the front I will do the back bushes next.

I also have a replacement sls valve to fit but am wary of starting without being ready to replace pipes.

Did Them at weekend removal no problems used a mini puller to pull drop links off ARB Bushes pulled off easily Reassembly was not quite so easy one of the ARB Bracket retaining bolts kept wanting to crossthread in the End I had to remove it all again and run a tap to clean the thread start after that it was still troublesome then after 5 or 6 tries it went in
Ride at the fron now up to the standard of my 202 and W208 just the rear to sort now ( suspect the level control ) going to load it up and see if it improves

W204 2010 Drop Links

Hi Guys,

Would these instructions be the same/similar for the W204 drop links? Please can someone advise the difference if any and the time taken to do just the OSF. Pictures would be great if you have any.

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Virgil
