5. siren

what else?

1) surprised at the chain, did it break if so at what mileage.
2) sbc has a life span, dont know what that is, so it needs replacing.
3) suspension springs have become a wear and tear item, lost of car owners replace them.
4) transmission fluid should be changed at every 37k mileage, so a service item really, and keeps the box in ship shape.
5) siren?

Is this things that have gone wrong on your car, or a list of the potential problems that can go wrong that you have found scouring the internet?

I signed up to www.hypocdriac.com last week and this week think I may as well string myself up, we're just so unreliable. ;)

You need a 5 series Beemer - their forums are very welcoming.

Manual gearbox oil and automatic gearbox hydraulic fluid are quite different things. Maybe if you read up on that sort of stuff and stop worrying yourself half to death about what might happen you might have a happier life ;)

Ha dont make me laugh!! I hope you are being sarcastic.
If not, well. I put a post there when looking at an E60, hoping for buying advice and things to look for. I got 1 snotty reply.

I came here, put a similar post about a W211, over a 1000 views and loads of helpful comments.

(Apologies if you were joking :p)

No oil is ever fit for purpose for life!! As said already auto box oil is specified to have a change at 37k and no further changes so that's not for life! Good practice however is every 37k and we even say ABC oil every 20k with a filter.
The w211 is a good car they suffer with some faults as does every car on the road.

Seems a bit biased...... it may be that you have had a bad experience...... or if you have compiled a list off here, I'm afraid that people rarely post things like this:
"my 2005 w211 didn't do anything wrong today, nothing broke and nothing needed changing or replacing"
Perhaps we should? Maybe a 'it didn't break today' thread we can all comment on things that didn't happen, to give a more rounded view of various models? ;-)

Why??

Mercedes have sold over a million and they are still going strong.

All the issues are known, so not really a problem when they come up.

It amazes me that we now expect to buy a car that may be 11 years old, for the price of a couple of services and a set of tyres when new, and expect them to not have to have some work done on them.

I was offered am E320cdi estate with 142k miles on it, 53 plate, for £3200.
The original invoice showed £39,000.
If I had to repair all of the above, it would still be a very cheap car compared to buying new. Chances of needing to do any of the above are slim.
