Is it intended only for a vertically mounted spare?

If he writes that the inside of the car smells of fuel then I guess the answer will be yes.

They were standard issue for all I8 and V8 cars
I wonder why just the big mo mo's, anything to do with the increased likelihood of running out on a short journey?

They are a similar cap design to the standard 20l and 10l military issue jerry cans. As long as the seal is in good condition they are fine horizontal or vertical. Seals are about £5 to replace from memory.

Steel seal A. No rubber, the wedge shape of the lock seals it down.

We had a 1998 C43 - no petrol can in that...

It'll be wasser off a ducks back for Craig, I bet he's used to getting the blame :shock:

If you have an Ad Blu tank under the spare wheel, this can't be of use ;)

No fear of that here as it would mean buying one of those horrible diesel things, that said I've never felt the need for a can of fuel I've always found the size of the standard tank perfectly acceptable. :)

When I had my old W168, the choice was between a storage box and a fuel can - I went with the storage box:

With the current A200 there's no option: I have a factory subwoofer in the spare wheel:

 I want one of those storage boxes!!!!

I blame all of you for my unnecessary spending on the CLK, it’s not my lack of willpower, honest ;)

I must say though, I'm honoured that someone has actually raised a thread to blame me for spending money! :D :D It's just like being at home, no, really...!

Blimey Craig, when I read you were getting the blame for everything I was so taken aback 'cos in our house that's usually my job!
- I had to go and check if you were in the spare room!

Dave, we had this conversation yesterday. LK’s better half and mine vs LK, GLK, Houseboss and I pretty much concluded it’s the same in every house ;)

Ha-ha I know the feeling ... I'm sure it is possible to stop, I just need to figure out how o_O

As to the box, not sure if it will fit*, but here's a part number and another pic:

p/n: B6 681 8207

*It's listed as suitable for 5.5J x 15 spare wheel

I was lucky to find one new, but they are quite rare ...

Thanks :) Probably won’t fit, mine is quite a bit wider and a 17 inch rim, but being too small is good, can always pack it out ;)
