Thanks for the all the replies and comments. I was all excited at the thought of a hybrid when i bought the car 2 years ago but now never want to touch one again. With 3 years finance on left on it i have a serious problem if i cant part-ex it. Looks like i'm going car shopping at the weekend. I wonder what the car sales places think about hybrid's, they may decide not to part-ex hybrids over a certain age due to this very reason! If they do then i am royally *******.
This could be my last Merc i think.

Go to MB and part ex it for a newer petrol one, second hand prices are high ATM so you may do quite well with it

Bottom line is they want cars off the road and more people on bikes, so introduce cars that are too expensive to run and repair, jobs a good un.

I think the design is both in part to legislation changes, coupled with deliberate designs that fail and are focused around dealer workshop repairs. This is all hidden behind the 'lets be green' bollox (or whatever band wagon they want to jump on next) that they all spout.

If you really want to make an impact and change you can. Is it Holland? (please correct) that has a great cycling infrastructure? This is what is needed to get people to cycle because the variables such as hostility, safety and willingness for it will change. That naturally reduces traffic and emissions on a large scale, it will benefit peoples health and illness, reduced vehicle fuel/maintenance costs can be put back into the pockets of the hard working but, this takes proper work and won't line the fat cats lifestyles.

I think this modern tech is lease only , the repair costs are too huge .
Funny you should say that my son is already talking about trading his W213 for an EV but the good news is that it would be lease so I’ll keep my thoughts to myself

Trouble with this is most people have to drive 20/30 miles or more to work.

The government are rapidly heading towards a crossroads on how to keep car tax incomes high, because of the no tax EV vehicles.
Options are a data box in the car, set up cost expensive & will take time to set up.
AMPR tracking again very expensive to set up, but most motorways are currently covered.
Finally a no cost option tax EV's.

My point was for stuff like errands, short commutes, light shopping, schooling and obviously as one gets fitter 10/20miles can become child’s play. Just this alone would have many benefits. Now there’s even electric bikes that make average Joe go like the clappers! Baby steps and all that.

I have seen last year that MB on their spare part web, sell's refurbished versions of this battery for less that £ 2.000,- in Germany. Then you will have to add the cost for the exchange.

Similar cost problem is with the starter, fails after approx. 80.000 activations. If MB change the starter, they charge up to £500,- for a swap model. If you buy a new original Denso, without the MB logo, the unit cost £100,- and exchange can be done by any car repair shop in approx. one hour.

That makes EVs more sustainable, if true.

Surely if refurbished batteries are available from MB in Germany they should also be available in the UK ?

If not, why not ?

Surely these batteries are repairable?
Have a look at Prius Battery fixes on YouTube in America.
£10-12,000 + does make a good week's pay.
