What sort of idiot buys a new car. Even 6 months old you can save at least 25%. Really if you want to be that silly you can always make the world's most expensive bonfire, at least then you'd be doing something origional with you money, no that's been done as well. Never mind I suppose if people like you didn't buy them then I wouldn't be able to pick them up cheap. Thank for subsidising my cars!
Be Interesting to see the responses when you call back asking for help here with (your subsidised car)
Unless a lottery win is in the offing no new car for me, at this time in my life it isnt an option. But I wouldnt have the audacity to come onto a MB forum and slag off people who are purchasing new cars.

Just one thought for you (depending on whether you can understand it ) if no one bought new cars where would the second user cars come from?

Strange is it not?
Its called putting your brain into gear before your mouth.

Oh dear you lot didn't seem to like that much did you. I'll say I'm sorry and I really didn't mean to upset anyone.
I'm glad people buy new cars and I'm glad it makes them feel happy it's just not something I buy;) into; prehaps that's what I should have said instead.

Just a note to BarryG, you said:

But you quoted me saying:
Never mind I suppose if people like you didn't buy them then I wouldn't be able to pick them up cheap.
I think I already answered your question.

I think the whole point was that you were calling forum members silly idiots, for doing something that you rely on them doing. So you can then reap the benifits of their stupidity further down the line.

Still waiting for the running boards. Apparently there is an " International shortage " of them. I have also been told that I need to take the AMG body kit off if I want running boards. Dont think they have looked at the ML63 that is in their showroom !!

Heres an update. Got a call last week to say the sidesteps were now in stock. They offered to collect the car and have them fitted to which I agreed. They collected yesterday and rang me at 4 o clock to see how I wanted to pay the bill and they explained it was £960 plus vat ! I nearly passed out. The original quoted price for them was £330 plus vat. When I complained they phoned back and offered to do the 3 hours labour at £100 per hour free but I would still have to pay the £570 for the sidesteps which is the new price for them. Despite the fact that I have it in writing from them that they are £330 they are not interested and wont do anything to resolve the matter. As a result they are now removing them and bringing the car back to me this morning. I only hope the car is in the same condition as when it was collected yesterday. The car has the AMG bodykit and after 4000 miles the paint is all off the rear arches , which they were to look at also. They called me at one point yesterday to say they had "touched it up". The damaged was far worse than a touch-up it needs resprayed. Then in another phone call later they said the bodyshop manager had looked at it and was putting in a report about it. One doesnt know what the other one is doing in there.

I doubt I will ever have another Mercedes and if I do it will certainly not be from Reg Vardy as my treatment has been totally ridiculous from the moment I set foot in the place. In fact the salesman actually said yesterday , " I doubt you will ever want to deal with us again" to which I replied " Well you said that "

Sorry to hear of your troubles, Many dealers and groups are much better now with a big improvement in customer relations, I have heard it said before that the Reg Vardy group are way behind the times, and of coarse they hold many other franchises. You know that you are free to go to a dealer of your choice, but not always easy when the dealers are all owned by the same group in the area.

I hope that has not put you off MB for life, things are getting better.

Allegedly Vardys been taken over by Evans Halshaw
My Dad's having fun with the Vard/Halshaw bodyshop at the moment.
Took his E220 in for a small rust repair (MB paying). Just needed a bit of the wheelarch cleaning back and respraying.
They returned it and a couple of weeks later the rust reappeared. A closer look showed that they'd dusted some paint over. The dirt was still behind the panel which would needed to have been cleaned off to do the job right.
So, back it went, and whilst they were at it, they were to ring with a quote to fix a few recent supermarket wounds. Off goes my Dad in his loan BMW. A week later he calls to see what's going on (booked in for 3 days). They've been busy - it will be ready at the weekend. Weekend comes and goes so after 2 weeks he goes in. The car is still where he parked it!
Suffice to say, after a lot of appologies, all the supermarket stuff will be done FOC, saving him a couple of hundred £.
Don't get mad, get even.

It gets worse. Just tried to get the running boards elsewhere and they tell me that you cant get them as my car has the AMG bodykit fitted. So what did they have fitted last week I asked. Probably a non genuine set they answered. Getting totally ****ed off with the whole saga.
Anyone want to buy a 4000 mile ML420CDI ?????

Chin up, you have a nice car. Dont let one bad outlet chain spoil it for you.

I would send a letter of the saga to the MB head office for it is clearly very poor customer relations

Dont give up on the car just because of a bad dealer! I had a virtually similar experience to yourself on my model. I had ordered bull bars, side bars and fold away tow bar as factory fit options which I had seen on cars in Germany. A few months into the long waiting list, they phoned to tell me that the factory dont make these options (I later found they did by picking up a German brochure) and they would have to be added at the dealership. When the car was delivered, the bumpers were not put on straight, the holes drilled through the front bumper were a mess, the tow bar was a permanent fixture which looked ugly and I had several issues with the bars vibrating and coming loose! The after care was abysmal compounded by the fact I was hardly ever in the country, which they took advantage of! Just mark out the dealer so others dont get bitten and enjoy your car. Im v.jealous, I love the V8 diesel :D

I have complained to the head office and am still waiting for a response. The sides of the car are all chipped , badly chipped after only 4000 miles. This is probably due to the big AMG wheels but the running boards would have saved this a lot. The dealer has just phoned me and said they wont be doing anything about the stone chips as its because we tow a rally car with it. For fecks sake I am sick of this. How the hell does towing anything affect what the wheels throw up. I have never been fed so much bull**** in my life and I have never had so much hassle over a car in my life. The car is now for sale and I will NEVER by another Mercedes. Off to enquire about the new X5 with the 535d engine !

DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM MERCEDES BENZ OF GLASGOW !!

sorry to hear about your ongoing problem with mercedes of Glasgow,
If you are serious about selling it why not park it on Fenwick Road with a for sale sign on it, and reason why it is for sale. I'm sure that might get some response.
Also you should point out you have crossed to the otherside of the road to buy an X5.
Good luck, but sounds like there is no going back

I think the problem here is MB chasing registrations and gclimbing into bed with volume car sellers. Reg Vardy have a fairly lousy reputation in the trade and can only really sell on price. In the volume market they will do deal with the manufacturer on a number of units and then undercut their fellow dealers by selling at less than normal cost. This way they get volume bonuses and other dealers lose out. They are not a service organisation and probably don't understand the word, as was evidenced by the shoddy way you were dealt with. Had you bought from an independent, you would almost certainly have been paid out on delivering your px to them and the HPI issue looks like a smoke screen. No dealer would dream of taking a car from another dealer without a clear HPI check, unless they were buying it very very cheaply AND knew what the problem was.
Sounds like you need to find somewhere else to get it serviced - don't give them the satisfaction of the after sales profit - it is much larger than the sales profit !
Enjoy the car though.

Just had an email from Daimler Chrysler customer complaints dept. They are now saying we missed the cut off date for adding the running boards ( irrelevent if they didnt have them anyway) and the paint damage was not caused by not having them fitted. They are basically closing the case and have a "dont really car attitude".

Absolutely ridiculous service. One thing that their salesman was right about is that I wont ever deal with them again. In fact I dont think I would ever buy another Mercedes.
I have been in trouch with both the BBC'S TOP GEAR and WATCHDOG programmes regarding this saga as it must be some sort of record !

Sorry to hear all your troubles, I bought another marque from the 'other' big volume chain and had loads of hassle also so I know how you are feeling.
As others have said all we can do is boycott them from now on as the manufacturers are only interested in sales and don't want anything to do with punishing them for c-ap service.

Good luck with whatever you do.

The industry seems to be tending towards bad service because they know there is a constant customer base. For example, Vodafone, 02 etc dont care about crap service, because when a customer gets ****ed off and migrates to a competitor, they know full well that one of the competitors customers will be getting ****ed off and migrate to them!

Another example about DCUK, we wrote to them about our C Class, which was bought in Germany and mentioned no other vehicle. The letter we got back completely ignored the C Class and brought up the M Class, telling us that as we had not gone to their service points, they wouldnt honour rust claims etc! They werent interested that a single customer had spent 70G with the Daimler Chrysler brand, only how they could knock that customer down and minimise 'current' losses.

A colleague made me laugh, but it was probably more truth than joke, in that you could fire the entire management of Daimler Chrysler and replace them with the canteen staff and we would notice no change but could expect an improvement! He's a DC share holder, regularly goes to their AGM's and is pretty ****ed off with them!

I had virtually no responses at all from DCUK when I had problems with my purchase. I see they are keeping up with their - we don't have to do anything to sell our cars attitude. Well they've had their come uppance with falling sales ( I think ) and loss of market share especially in the US and falling favour here in customer surveys.
