Well, about once a year I post on here about whether I should get a new car or not!

With the prices of CLK63 at the moment, I quite fancy one, the roof doesn't come off, but I've had the CLK now for 6 years and although it's STILL a fantastic car that does a bit of everything, I am really starting to think it's time for a change. I am quite liking the idea of a CLK63 wagon.

Anyhow, I was thinking of what mine would be worth, do you guys think a private sale around 10k? Does anyone think that is far off? Does anyone have any clue as to what it may be worth in PX to a dealer? Does 7k on a more expensive car sound reasonable expectation for a PX value?

Just a quick check on ebay shows only 1 for sale at the moment, 12k and it's a 2003 model with 93k on the clock.

Mine is a 2005 MY, so later command, larger brakes, designo paint and leather. Bodywork is mint for it's age, always kept it up together and had any marks on the bumper etc done. Leather is in good condition, no tears or rips etc, roof and all electrics work, good brakes, serviced, tyres etc, 106k miles, custom quad exhaust, uprated rollbars and bushes, remapped.

MOT done in December so long MOT too.

Thoughts?

And anyone on here with experience of going from a C55 or CLK55 to a C63? Was it worth it? What were the pro's and cons?

I know if I sell it, I will never get another like it, it's a one off with it's spec and paint combination, but I can't have four cars, and in all honesty, spend enough money on cars as it is.

Cheers.

Interesting dilemma Steve!
A CLK 63 Wagon?? Assume you mean C63 or CLS63.....;)
I haven’t driven any of the 55 variants so I’m maybe not best placed to help on that, my previous was the SL500 (5.5V8 mind), and I would say that to my E63 was a huge step (and C63’s I’ve tried), more modern, hugely powerful etc...
What budget you thinking? And what’s your other 3 cars?
On yours, the market is peculiar in that the right buyer will pay what you ask within reason, just depends how motivated you are to move on....

C63 wagon would tick many boxes, the W204 chassis is a much nicer drive than the W203/9 chassis (by nicer I mean more relaxing and easier to drive), the engine is epic particularly when it has the PPP with LSD.

As JL asked what other cars do you have? Are you thinking of streamlining the fleet?

I would sell yours privately as a dealer will no doubt try to underprice it, if a 2003 is £12k then yours is worth considerably more and they are becoming rarer.

Thanks for the replies gents, sorry yes had CLK on the brain obviously :) I did mean C63. I think the wagon's look nice, I see hardly any around, and I'd actually be able to stop having to borrow other peoples cars to collect things or move things around!

Interesting to know the later C class chassis is much better. The 203/209 chassis seems to do ok, but it can feel a bit like a tank at times!

At the moment I've got the CLK55, an Mr2 roadster and a CLK320. We also have an abarth which we swapped for a new one before xmas and I think maybe that is what has given me the 'get a new car' bug. The CLK's and wifes car has been brilliant (until we px'd it). The roadster however has been nothing but trouble since I bought it in the summer last year, I jumped at it as it was a two owner 52k miler TTE turbo (really rare) and so paid top money for it to scratch my 'different car' itch. Alas, it turned out to not be the best decision I have made, it was an oil burner and then the clutch started to go, and then shocks... So I've just been going through the expensive process in the past few months of having a new engine built and upgrading the internals and turbo / gearbox / ECU etc and changing the suspension and it's still sat in the garage yet to be mapped / set up and running! Oh well you win some you lose some I guess.

On the CLK I've also just renewed the front suspension and put a years MOT on, new year, new car perhaps, it may be the right time to sell it for me? Although a convertible in winter may not sell all that well?

Budget wise if I sold the CLK for around 10k, I'd be looking at high 20's, I wouldn't want to go over 30. That's the problem with liking larger, large engine cars, the abarth was only 17k new with lots of options! I don't think I will ever get a car I like new they are too expensive...

So do you think I am in the right ballpark value wise for my car?

I know what you mean about dealers, I px'd my 996 for the CLK55, I got 7k only for it, and this is going back 6 years! My only concern would be having it sat around on the driveway for a long time, not sure really what the market is like for these older mercs.

Wagons are cooler as well

I had a W209 CLK350 Cab Sport and the W204 feels completely different, it is lighter to drive and feels more direct

So are you going to get rid of both CLK's?

Yours is very specialist so should sell

So do you think I am in the right ballpark value wise for my car?

I think you are low

No rush though so sell when someone pays what it is worth and then look for a new car

Thanks for the replies much appreciated. What do you think it should be priced at? It literally has hardly any marks on the paint and no rust. Interior is spot on, no leather discolouration etc. There are no known errors at all with the car, I've always had everything fixed or repaired / replaced. The only thing that isn't factory is the switch on the luggage cover, as sometimes the tab wasn't always pressed, even after replacing the rams, so I just have the switch permanently engaged (so you have to remember to put the luggage cover down or up). Even command is updated to 2016, I've got a folder with every receipt and part I have done in the past 6 years, also had a brand new (modern style) spare key coded at Mercedes last year. Of course it's still an old car, but it's in really good order.

The older w208 CLK is kept at my dads and he uses it, it's only worth a couple of grand so not worth selling, would rather keep.

The MR2 I have passed the point of no return, so will be keeping that, it's also useful once I get it up and running as a fun spare car, and I have plans to go for a little roadtrip across France in it later this year (again if it gets sorted!).

The CLK55 is my daily driver, although I work at home, so don't do huge mileage in it now. I'm not desperate for a car, so could just advertise it and see how it goes.

That black one looks good value, one of the newer ones I have seen and good mileage too. I think I'd prefer a white or nardo grey, although trying to find a used grey wagon would and for the right price is likely not be possible!

It is very well specced as well

I have Tenorite grey and it is lovely, has a blueish hue in direct light. I think you need to just sell yours and then look, something will come up

Looks really good in Red, shame it is bad paint

That colour does sound nice!

Good age and spec that one again, not keen on red though, nor the seats :)

I just did a free valuation on autotrader for my car, I think they are confused :D

Just picked the first white C63 I saw on autotrader that was at a dealer:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classi...ars&postcode=sn34pd&aggregatedTrim=C63&page=1,

Decided to call them out of interest to see what they could do with mine, they said 7k is the book price for a base 54reg CLK55, but with the spec and paint + options they could probably come closer to 10k when they see it if it is as described. So that doesn't sound too bad actually to give me a starting point.

They may be right, AMG prices are all over the place, the price of C63 shows with 2011 cars more than 2014

Sounds OK, I think you could get quite a bit more, maybe put it up at £14,995 and see what happens

Mine is this colour

I like that colour a lot, I am not sure someone would turn up to a private sale with 14k, maybe if it was at a dealer (even if the dealer was rubbish). People seem to prefer them.

Here is my CLK colour, variocolour 4 pearl (catchy I know). It's in my opinion a really nice grey, that give off a silvery lilac tint sometimes in the sun.

Haven't found much in the wagon category, still mulling it over. There is a silver one for sale on my road at a dealer, I don't like the look of it but may book a test drive this weekend so at least I have something to go on.

They are a rare beast but worth waiting for IMO
