An ice hockey puck works really well on top of a trolley jack

I use two pieces of 15mm ply that sit on my trolley jack, one glued on top of the other. The topmost piece has a cutout in its centre that neatly fits the size and shape of the car jacking pads. Nary a slip.

If I use the ply for any other car I just turn it upside down on the jack Simples.

If you want to use your jacking points correctly use these. I have been using them for years:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-...ng-Pad-Rubber-Tool-also-fits-BMW/272808274127

I have four of these.
Fit the slot perfectly, and have a protective overhang. They sit inside my trolley jacks claws so can slip out and ensure the claws cant touch the cills.

The std. jack with the car is woefully scary!
IMO for a car that cost £96K, MB should have incorporated a modified 4T Bottle Jack and a plate to accomodate soft ground.

I take it you will be using axle stands for all corners.

I had one at the time. It worked OK the couple times I used it. Fire service use (or at least used to) a massive version for helping right tankers where there wasn't anything much substantial to jack up against.

My ole dad had a Ford V8 Pilot.
It had four hydraulic jacks underneath. Each would lower independently as required.
Clever old Ford.

The downside was, the engine was a heavy old side valve flat head V8 developing about 5hp, and mated to a three speed manual box. Oh yes ... and no brakes worth mentioning.

Beware using just an ice hockey puck on a trolley jack, if the puck does not fit inside the claws of the jack. Pretty sure that was part of the reason my 968 fell off the axle stands when lifting the other side of the car. I now have the type mentioned above (that fits into the slot) for the MB.
