made a silly mistake and tried jump starting car with terminals wrong way round. potentially I presume a fuse is probably blown but dash board gauges still come on . can anyone suggest any fuses that are likely to have blown or could it be worse.i have put it on charge and hoping it just needs a new battery.

Oops! Mercs do not like that at all! Potential front SAM.
Did you get it started?

No car likes that ... whatever the badge on the front ;)
Fair point, Green Flag fried an ECU on my V70R when I had it doing exactly that. The even more annoying thing is that it was being driven by a lease company employee who was collecting it from me to purchase, I wasn’t even with the car. Idiot said employee had decided not to put any fuel in, despite my warnings..
That caused some major issues for me at the time!

I checked all the fuses and none had blown. I put a new battery on and car started no problem . I think I got away without a disaster this time but will make sure I don't do that again. One query though not sure why it needs an agm gel battery when my car isn't a start stop one.any ideas? Thanks

because modern cars are so energy hungry an AGM will just have enough left to start the car after 2 weeks holiday and recover without issue

std batteries just die a little bit each time, under such use

If a car is designed for AGM it might have a slightly different charge current/voltage. I know bench chargers have a slightly different way of charging flooded vs AGM.

Advantages of AGM
The link doesn't say so but AGM is less likely to suffer from sulphation, a common killer of flooded batteries when the voltage gets low.
