Hi, I kerbed a wheel recently (ggrrrr) and I'm sure we all get irked when that happens! Am wondering what the views and recommendations are from members.

* fixed by independent or chain?
* DIY fix?
* any deterioration issues if it's not fixed immediately?
* and, just out of pure curiosity, what's the longest anyone has gone without kerbing any wheel on their car?

I have this issue on 2 cars, both diamond cut too (typical!) I have found a local guy to me who does sterling work, £85 a corner to recut.

That's only £255 then... :'(

Ouch! My wheels are diamond cut too. Just watched this neat video of how one company approaches this, and on a Mercedes diamond cut alloy. On premises though. A lot of work goes into each wheel, perhaps, 20 minutes touch time?

Don't start me on diamond cuts! Horrible stupid inventions
If not handled quickly they will tarnish and corrode and there is a limit how many times they can be done, as the normal method is to skim off a bit each time on a specialist lathe...
I used the Wheel Specialists who did a good job, but much pricier than Craig's source- mine were £120 per wheel...ouch indeed

As long as cars run around on skinny tyre there will always be kerb marks. I use the 18" on my CL rather than the 20" that most like, to me I have no marks in 7 years. I have avoided any marks on the SL

I've never put kerb marks on any wheel, ever.
Not that I'm big headed about it. Done lots of stupid things to more than equal out the balance.

Made a big mistake a couple of weeks ago but pretty much got away with it. Just a scuff on the rear bumper that pretty much T'cutted out.
I wasn't even in the car when I reversed and hit the fence! Not sure I'm brave enough to share the sorry tale just yet and anyway, it's not about alloy damage so would be off topic.

Maybe in a new thread over the weekend, encouraging others to fess up on mistakes they tried but failed to forget.

£75-100 per wheel seems to be the norm...
I just posted a thread asking if any tyres included the sidewall bead like the Pirelli P zero that gives a bit of protection to the rim, any info?

When I had diamonds cuts I did consider the Alloygator thingies or similar although they did mention maybe not too great due to the potential of trapped moisture - in retrospect I wish I had - can't see the moisture being worse than a scuff!

Park assist from the app outside of the car? Lol

Some do yes. Usually noted in the tyre rating for sidewall protection.

Nothing fancy like that, I'm not building suspense. It was just me having a stupid moment, the car was in gear but my brain definitely wasn't.

Many tyres have bead protection. It's the norm rather than the exception.

My Coupe has park assist and she gets into some tight spots, never kerbs it, however, she always completes the manoeuvre about 6" off the kerb!
Like some others I might mention!!!

Active park assist is very good generally, safer 6" off the kerb than against it!

I was always told 6" off the kerb was the correct distance for two reasons:
1. If it rains it allows the gutter to flow without excess hindrance.
2. Any rubbish washed into the gutter won't be picked up by the tyre.

True, true...
I'm always nervous when my car is sticking out wider than others - the E Coupe is not a narrow car and streets around here are often a bit tight!
Not to mention that
some don't stop if they ding your pride and joy...
