Key Fobs (again)

Hi chaps,super board with loads of info.I have a problem with my wifes R plate C180 Elegance.The remote will not open the doors,so to get into the car you have to use the spindly looking key thing and then quickly turn on the ignition with the remote,all this happens while the alarm is going off.The car starts with no problem.The remote will lock the doors and open the boot.
The spare remote does nothing at all even with a new battery.I tried the camera trick with the partially working remote and you can only see the infra-red light when you press the door-lock and boot-release button.
Please help us before my neighbours kill us!!

i would try a reputable locksmiths then off to the dealers i am afraid.

if your technically inclined it might be worth opening your remote and checking its clean.

Ok - from your description, I would say that the door open button on the first remote has packed in. Hence everything else still works fine, the remote itself is ok, but you can't switch on the open door function and hence no output from the IR circuit. I suspect you have little choice but to replace it, though if tehcnically inclined you could have a fiddle.

The other remote you say does nothing. Assuming you can see the light working on all 3 buttons on that remote (and it's simply that the car is ignoring it) then it probably needs a resync and possibly a recharge of the internal transponder battery. Not sure how to resync those, but start by parking the car in a locked garage overnight and leaving the dead key in the ignition. This should recharge the transponder side of the key and may even get it working again.

Thanks for the advice but so far no joy.The 'dead' fob doesn't light up at all.

If you car to put up the first 6 numbers of the VIN I will see if I can find something.
