Ive just discovered a roof leak on my SL350 2008 face lift model, it drips directly onto the storage compartment behind the driver seat and makes the carpet damp.

Ive looked for splits, uneven rubber seals and all looks ok. Looking at the roof from the inside, the drip comes from the open area level with the quarter window and drips straight onto the storage compartment.

The rest of the car is dry including the boot, so im assuming its the seal inbetween the roof and the back window where it folds.

I thought i would try either Krytox 105 or Gummi Pfledge, not not sure which one is the better to use, i understand Krytox is used by Mercedes so leaning towards that.

I hope this makes sence, any advise would greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Little difference in the 2, is the gap above the rear window correct.

You need to get the roof partly open.

You need a length of wood 12" long roughly, start to open the roof when the front has unlocked, turn off and stop, the bleeper will sound and stop. just push the roof forward so that the wood is jammed as in the picture

I used Krytox when I had my SLK, because it claimed to 'reform' compressed roof seal rubbers. It certainly worked for the minor leak I had, so I can recommend it on that score.
I was tempted to make adjustments to the roof closing mechanism, but didn't need to in the end.

Krytox is by far the superior product of the two. Used it on my VW Eos and it kept water leaks at bay no problem. I don't know whether it is a recommended product by Mercedes but it certainly is by VW.

Gummi Pflege is a silicone and will congeal with age whereas Krytox is a lubricant and remains as such. VW recommend a twice a year application which seemed to do the trick.

Don't use too much though, just a minimal application will suffice. and make sure you kneed it well into the seals. :):):)

I found krytox to seal minor leaks that gummi pfledge didnt.

The other thing that I think helps is to leave the roof part open under cover for a couple of days to give the seals chance to get back to shape. Open the roof as Malcolm describes above then give all the seals a wipe down with a damp cloth to get any grot off them. Let them dry then massage krytox into the seals. Leave the roof open for a day or two and then massage krytox again.

You can use the auto transmission stop leak stuff to cheer up rubber seals :)

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I will try Krytox and leave the roof open as Malcolm suggested, hopefully that will stop the the leak.
