Yes, it's a straight six and has about 150k miles.

This is a hypothetical list of what should / could be refurbished to make showroom ready an already 13 year old vehicle!

Engine
  • glow plugs / seals / controller
  • injectors
  • replace rubber hoses
  • oil / filter
Transmission
  • Full service
Suspension
  • replace control arm bushings
  • check and replace ball joints
  • check and replace shocks & struts
  • Wheel bearings
Body
  • Dent correction
  • Paint correction

The object here is to find a "good" vehicle and make it a "great" vehicle that you'd gift to a family member whom you care for. In this wish list, no expense is too much.

What am I missing in my wish list? Let's play the game together!

I do this quite a bit, mainly for ebay specials :p

I typically do:

  • Full service
  • Thermostat
  • Gerabox oil + Filter
  • Engine + Gearbox mounts
  • Adress any oil leaks
  • Spray underside with ACF50 or Dynax, depending on location.
  • 2 or 3 stage body polish and then seal.
  • Alloy refurb or replace
  • Interior gets a full deep clean/treatment, this makes a big difference on most cars
  • any interior switches/trim thats broken gets replaced.

You should market that little baby as the AMF B++ Service ....not sure how you would price it though :D

I did this almost exactly a year ago. A pal took in a 120,000 mile E320cdi estate in part ex. I bought it for a bargain price. One rear suspension airbag had burst. On inspection the compressor was new as was one rear bag. The other bag had failed. Inspection of the paperwork revealed the new parts were fitted at main dealer. The bill was eye-watering, and the failure of the other bag probably left the owner expecting a similar bill, so he bailed out and p'exed for a newer car. My list:

Full service, with all fluids - engine, gearbox, differential
1 new rear air Spring
New thermostat
Discs and pads front and rear
Four new premium brand tyres
New tailgate latch
Wiper blades
Two new batteries

14,000 miles covered in the first year of ownership. I carried out an A service after 10,000 miles, but it has needed nothing else and passed the MoT with no advisories. Great cars! Long term average 39.2mpg.

Hehe. The big price would come from the polish, that takes 2 days!
