I’m going to look at a 53 plate clk 500 cab at the weekend, anything I should look out for, I’ve already asked about rust and he says there isn’t any. The car has done just over 100k.

engines are pretty sound but still better with full service history , check for any previous damage , overall condition matches the odometer reading and that everything works , also if you have a code reader , plug it in and see if there is any codes stored

Get the roof up and down as many times as you can, check it latches properly.
Sprinkle a hose over it to check for leaks.
Check under carpets and boot for damp.

Check the serpentine belt is good and if not looking the bottom pulley whilst the engine is running. They can wobble and chew the belt and if they start to you need a new pulley. Not overly expensive for the part but it's done up effing tight + 90 degrees..

Went to see the car, seemed to be fine apart from the cam covers seem to be leaking on one side and it only had one key. I also think it had keyless entry and start but was missing the card ( do they cost a lot)

Does it have a card if it's 2003, I thought my 2003 SL350 was missing a card but it's in the key they'd done away with the card, simply have the key in your pocket and try and start it. The door may not unlock as a previous owner may have had the keyless unlock disabled. I think it's also possible to disable the start as well but perhaps someone else can confirm this but it's worth checking as I thought the same with mine. :)

We had a 2003 CLK55 with Keyless Go - definitely no card, just the (two) keys. Listen for clicking from behind the dash - some of the climate control motors and gears break. Repair needs the whole dash taking out so costs four figures. Otherwise, normal things like worn front suspension ball joints.

We have a 2005 CLK500 Cab. Just to put the above in context ours makes the clicking noise during start up but it goes away after perhaps 30 seconds and never comes back till next start up (and sometimes not even then). The heating / cooling seems to work ok so we've lived with it for more than 2 years...

Ours clicked away more than that, but your point is well made.

Went to see a a great clk55 today was a nice car apart from the clicking dash ( how much does it actually cost to fix) , but it seemed to have the start of rust on the edge of all the wheel arches what sort of cost are we talking to sort it?
