Advanguarde E220 diesel estate
Hi everyone.

I have a E220 CDI Advanguarde 2.2 diesel, 2004 Auto (119,000 miles)

Over the past few months I have noticed this intermitted fualt when i'm driving there is a loss of power. When I try to accelerater there is no response even with pedal to the floor. I have tried manually changing gear but all that does is raise revs and car starts to slow. What I find is that if I switch car off and restart the problem goes away. Also the engine management light dosn't come on

I have also noticed that when car is working ok and i press pedal to kick down there is a puff of dirty smoke from exhaust. Not sure if this is related.

I appreciate any help you can give me on this issue

Sounds like you car is going into limp mode. You need to get it hooked up to a star system to identify what error codes are showing.................. Then the fun really starts!

Hi Star

Thanks for that, will get it done as soon as i can. I have been surfing around and found that others have had same problem. They fitted a new EGR valve and that seem to have solved the problem. Problem is ive no idea where on the engine that would be lol

you could try disconnecting the wires to the MAF sensor. sometimes it puts the car into permanent limp mode (until reconnected and restarted) but often the car will drive perfectly. if the car drives fine, it proves the MAF is faulty (common problem) but otherwise its a £70ish gamble

Check your turbo pipe which runs down to the inter cooler for splits. Came back from France last week in my 2005 c220 cdi and it went into limp mode on the return journey ( No warning lights showing ). No turbo or power but it did manage to get to 130km on the motorway eventually. Got to Calais and parked up and when we returned the car was back to normal but it didn't last. Diagnosed and found that the main turbo pipe (Low pressure) was split and engine management light was showing on cluster. Have taped the pipe and the warning light has now gone. New pipe being fitted today.Hope this helps as I thought the problem was electrical.JK
