Umble, you get a "from start" and "from reset" on the consumption cluster so no need to reset.

True. I was forgetting that bit.

As for all the graphs and calculations above - I'd rather just drive the car and keep a weather eye on the mpg readings in case they suddenly drop off. If they're within my broad mental parameters then all is well.

You are moving from a lighter c class to a heavier and more powerful e class.
Not necessarily - the E Coupe which the OP has is on the same platform as the old C Class so weight may not be an issue.

diesels are more heat efficient than petrols so take longer to warm up fully. when theyre warmed up they do better MPG but short trips, diesels arent so great.
I think @turbopete has the answer if the journey is only 4 miles each way.

Thanks for all the comments. I could understand the miles being low due to a short distance being travelled but the fact my c200 was a 2 litre as well has made me question the e class mpg. Both cars travelling the same route carefully. The e class also has stop start which the c class didn't. In the last 200 miles the mpg seems to have increased slightly hopefully it will keep improving.

Good data , well recorded! Are you able to see the instantaneous MPG in your trip computer display and get a display of over 40MPG?

I have recently bought a E220 CDI Bluetec, April 2014, Reg, which had done 23,000 miles and even on a Motorway, the display cannot go beyond 40 MPG where there is a red line, indicating max possible number to display? The computed MPG did show up to 53 mpg on a trip. Wondering why the trip computer cannot display above 40MPG on a motorway, while the Volvo, I had earlier, showed earlier, showed readings like 65 MPG,etc depending on speed /downhill/uphill which was a good feedback to get optimal mileage driving speed.

Is it a software update problem?

No, mine only goes to 40mph on the instantaneous screen.

Thanks for the input. Any reason you think it is shown only till 40 MPG by Mercedes Benz while other manufactures show the actual value for all ranges? The on board computer would be having the data, why not display it ?

The actual benefit would only be on the highways - in city driving you can only drive up to 30-40 mph and get relevant live display of which one is already aware and not actually useful. May be the max MPG of a MB car at one time was 40 and that display range was not revised ?? ! You reckon a software update can sort it out?

My E220 W212 (same as Wind's) will only show upto 40mpg instantanaeous too. However if you scroll the centre display to MPG over time (under the "Car" menu heading) it will show MPG average in 5-minute segments. If it goes over 40MPG average it will display it there.

Don't understand their thinking on the instantanaeous display myself tbh.

Thanks ! Will check with the Mercedes Benz local branch as it seems to be a common issue and get their input!

They won't know, it will be an MB customer interaction/ styling policy thing.
