well after having my limp home mode for my C270Cdi checked today the only error on the Star machine was for the swirl flap motor.
The amount of crud i cleaned out the EGR prob means they are solid and not just the motor burnt out.
The car is only 4 days from purchased so I'm hoping the trader will pay the fee for parts and labour to get this back on the road and running fine.
I doubt a garage will remove the swirl flaps to save future issues?

Will keep you updated......

Empty garage, awaiting new toy :)
Labour intensive job, even more so if you have the flaps removed and the motor needs mapping out or the resistor trick applied.

I think they gonna do a normal repair rather than a mod.
They have already said the motor is 149 plus vat but looking for a garage to do the repair now

They're looking at replacing the motor and not addressing the issue? Ideally, the inlet needs stripping down and cleaning out, then maybe the flaps will function as they're supposed to. You can either buy an 'Emulator' Thingy on ebay for what, £50 quid or buy the cheaper resistor, at 50p. The 'emulator' is just the resistor in a fancy package.
Not sure about your engine but maybe have a look at removing them.

Motors do fail on these and not because it has a swirl flap issue.

You can check the operation of the flaps once the motor is disconnected.

The trader is collecting the car today to get it sorted. :0)

So hopefully no more 'limp mode'

On the 'star diagnosis' there were no other errors just the flap motor

An indication it was just the motor. Any swirl flap failure and you would have had a charge pressure too low fault code along side it.

Glad its sorted.

Thank you Steve, that's a nice to know. Will be pleased to get it back, the egr is all clean, I'm sure an oil and filters change will help too. Looking at the air and pollen filter I doubt the fuel filter has been changed in a while!!!

The swirl flap arm had snapped when the traders garage took it apart, so a new manifold has been ordered :0)
At least I know I'm a tad soot free for a few miles ;0)
