Or about £60-70 if you change the Atf and filter yourself.
Neither a big nor a complicated job - just one spanner (hex socket) does the whole thing.

Is this the gearbox dipstick? If its the engine one, im sure it was a red one. ?
Yes - ATF = Automatic Transmission Fluid.
Yes with gearbox filter . Merc recommend every 37500 miles . I maintain this frequency afterwards as do many members . £2-300 to change at Indt or £4000 gearbox :)

It's quite possible that you don't have an auto box dipstick - my 07 C Estate doesn't have one . The car was set (as I mentioned earlier) to "ASSYST" where the on board diagnostics tell you when to get an A or B service done. The - the word was it was "sealed for life" with no comment in the handbook or service schedule. After worrying about it I was looking at info here and decided to get it done - and independent (Mercland - well recommended here) charged me £280 for a Trans Service: Fluid/Filter etc and told me it's recommended to be done every 40K miles. So I had it done and it doesn't feel any different - but I know it's been done and it has lovely clean fluid inside! With my average mileage now, I may be playing a harp by the time next one is due!

Yes, Umble is quite right - there's a big saving to be made - but at my age and with f-f... arther, flamin, rightis I can't get/lie down on concrete floors any more. And that's a shame 'cause I used to enjoy doing the straightforward money-spinning jobs (and see that everything was good underneath - no leaks etc).

Just realized - tomorrow is your/your dad's big day isn't it? Hope all goes well - from your background story everything loods vry good.

Evening all.
So we have collected the car this evening.
Drove it back home around 10-15 miles, seems nice.

Its also got auto wipers and auto lihhtse, which I wasn't aware of.

I spent ages looking for the auto indicators, but no joy...
Then I realised...
It's German like the Beemers, no one bothers!
I thought it's just Audi and Bmw drivers that don't need to indicate o_O

Its a pain driving without auto wipers and lights :)

Each to his own.

I turn off many of the auto features where I can.
I prefer to use my own judgement regarding lights and wipers. The auto feature on these items can only react to immediate conditions, whereas I prefer to be proactive where lights and wipers are concerned.

Umble.

Thank you all, we have some private plates that have come off the Vectra, so once this is taxed and insured the plates will be going on.

Lovely - like your drive by the way

Thank you and thank you.
Driveway was done just under a year ago, I was very specific about the 3D style pattern, etc. But thank you.
