Mercedes c class ignition

Hi can any one help or advise me?? i have a 2006 mercedes c class 1.8 petrol.. my ignition barrel has seized up if i buy another ignition with the same code number on it will it match up to the car or will it need re coded ?

any help would be appreciated

Hi John,

EIS switches are not interchangeable between cars at all. You cannot recode them, not with STAR at least. There is a company that can make you one up but he needs existing keys and the old EIS I believe.

How do you know it is the ignition lock for sure? Have you tried it with both ignition keys?? Have checked to see if its not just a dead flat battery?

I had to have a new eis on my SL and cost me about £800 fitted and I had to provide V5 and ID to pick it up, apparantly it comes from Germany coded to your VIN.
