CLA Coupe 4dr Auto
Hello,
I’m planning to lease a CLA or C-Class Coupe. The C-Class with all the optional extras will come up to around £304.70, and the CLA £320.04.
The exact models are a
CLA AMG Line 4dr Tip Auto (1.6L) Petrol

C-Class Coupe C200 AMG Line Premium Plus 4dr 9G Tronic (2L) Petrol, Automatic

I’ve chosen that C Class because I’d like a sunroof, I care purely about cosmetic looks and running costs of each car. My preference is the C Class but I’m worried it will cost me much more to run. I can afford both I’m just getting a first car and would like to know more as my knowledge of cars runs very thin.
Could someone with more knowledge please help me decide which will be the best option.

Biggest difference is that the CLA is front wheel drive, where the C class is rear wheel drive. As for running costs I am not too sure to be honest. I used to run an E350 CDI and that was quite reasonable.

Please do not take offence, but if you are concerned with running costs, you might want to lower your budget a bit and possibly go for an older car.

From those I’d go with the C Class but then I like a bigger engine ;)
In all seriousness though, the 2l unit will be more comfortable to drive , less stressful. That’s my twopence

It’s fine, the running costs are not a problem, this is just my first car so I’d like to know round about estimates as I don’t know much about owning a car or how much it really does costs. But I can definitely afford it I just like to be prepared

Meaning that the bigger engine will cope better with less gear changes and be smoother to drive, hence a less stressful experience

I think this is going to depend on how youthful you are, meaning what kind of driver, what do you need a car for, family obligations and any other criteria you may have. Only you can decide which is the best option to go for. :)

That makes sense. Do you know if the C-Class would cost significantly more to run?

This is just for general Driving and social use, for the first year I won’t be driving it a lot as I’m in uni and the city I’m in is very small, however after that I’ll be in London using it for social use.

Sounds to me that the CLA would be more your style. Possibly being smaller it is more suited to city life. But that is me not you

Apart from all of the iffy Renault gubbins I just thought the CLA was more youthful

Yeah it’s my first car so I’m not too worried about a large engine or anything, C-Class insurance seemed to be about £900 more

Everything else apart from fuel will have similar running costs- I note the lease on the C Class is £20 ish per month less - I’m astonished on the insurance price difference! You mention Uni- are you a ‘young’ driver?

Yeah I’m a young driver, only had my license for 2 years and 0 NCD. The C class would be a very similar price it’s the optional extra on the CLA that make it go up so much, the C class seems to have all the extras I want already.
Do you know roughly what the difference on fuel would be?

Combined 49.2 mpg on the C Class against 52.3 for the CLA so nothing in it really

Would telematics work for you to reduce your insurance policy? This being your first car, might be a bit of a pain for a year but will lessen your policies in future years

Sorry like I said my knowledge is very low with cars, so it’ll be roughly the same? I thought the bigger litre car would drink a lot more petrol

Insurance for C-Class roughly 2600 with a telematics, CLA was around 1600/1700
