My C250 is coming up for it service and i knew it would be expensive as its gearbox oil time, but i was incredulous to see that Mercedes garages are now charging £20 to sit in their lounge while they
a) charge me £670 for a A1 service (which in itself is madness)
b) try and sell me new cars

Rant over. i just couldnt believe the cheek of it. i do think its garage specific though

Surely its not £20 "to sit in the lounge"? It's £20 to get a fixed appointment that will make it worthwhile to sit in the lounge and wait ie 1-2 hours?

That said, my local dealer group (Sandown) makes no charge to drop and go (and gives me a lift home and back in their bus), no charge for a fixed appointment (approx 1hr 20mins for an A service, in the lounge, free), £20 to collect and return the car to home/office and £20 for a loan car.

Mother of God !!! Just read the account entry requirements , if I had that money I wouldn't need to "shop around " :D

The benefits are very good. Especially the lounge access as I do travel a fair bit.

I used MB Warrington recently and was only charged £36 for a collect and drop off. My car is with my folks at the moment so made it easier for them if MB collected and returned the car

There wasn’t a charge to sit and wait though.

My last company car was a Honda Shuttle. We had all our vehicles on long term rental with full maintenance - so effectively the servicing was done at a discount to the vehicle supplier because the big ones negotiate pricing with every brand. But for my reduced price service, they picked up my car (only about 2.0 miles but the roads were always busy) and either brought it back about 4:30 pm or picked me up (my choice) - for free of course. If I did wait for anything to be done, the seating was plentiful and the coffee was free (although it wasn't a "premium" coffee!).

No charge at MB Giffnock for tea and biscuits , having said that there should be plenty money left over from the annual £500 it costs to have your vehicle not serviced.

The HSBC Premier account gives similar but not so comprehensive benefits. That costs around £12 a month.

In fairness neither MB Liverpool nor Cheshire Oaks have charged me for either waiting or a loan car

How comprehensive is the lounge access Carl? Is it a wide range of lounges and is it free access or set charge? For instance I use priority pass , membership through Wexas is about £100 annually and its £15 per person per visit. I can have 3 guests that charge too. What is also the monthly rate for this account. 100 q’s finished!

I only ever use the parts department at my dealer but I hammer their coffee and biscuits as usually I'm waiting over 10 mins to be seen (queue of customers)... Seeing this £20 charge by MB to those of you who have to use them, I'm glad I hammer them now lol. That's just awful.
