I have recently purchased an immaculate 2012 Merc C-Class 220 AMG coupe that I wish to keep for many years. However, I've been reading up online last few months and Mercedes feature alot in rusting articles. This has now got me worried, is it best seeking a professional rustproofing treatment? I've found this company online DINITROL can anyone recommend them? https://www.dinitroldirect.com/

Where have you been reading? Mercedes did have a significant rust problem from the late 90s to early 2000s when they switched to water based paints, however between about 2002 and 2004, they introduced galvanised panels model by model. Anything post 2005 is unlikely to be any more rust prone than any other make I don't think, though I stand to be corrected if someone has evidence to the contrary...

Sums it up completely.
We have an 8 year old SLK & a 7 year old E class, not a spot of rust on either.

From 1999 to some time in 2003 MB did not galvanise - C class in particular, as I found on my 2001 C270 S203. However, post mid-2003 they resumed galvanising, plus in 2004 they introduced nano paint so rust problems were apparently much reduced. Just as well for owners, as their "30 year paint warranty" is not worth the paper it's written on!!

My 55 reg SLK has rust on the front wing near the headlight and on the edge of the wheel arch and both of my W164 ML’s have rust starting on the bottom edge of the rear wheel arches.

Although better than the A208/W203 & W163 that we had previously - they tend to rust more than our other cars.

Both Renault Clio’s that the kids have show no signs of rust.

Had my 05 CLK rust proofed by CRS classics, not cheap and they use dinitrol. Dinitrol creeps into seams etc, Waxoil musts sits on the surface. £600 may sound, they strip out all plastic wheel arch liners etc, a lot but does not go very far on body work.

My keep until I died, or had my keys taken away car is my Millenium Diesel C220 Estate. What a laugh! I have had the Swiss cheese effect underneath and spent a small fortune with a welder last summer so I could pass the MOT and there are scary advisories on it for my test coming up in July. Unfortunately I fell in love with her, I call her Sylvia, she has only 104,000 on her as she was used to pick up wonderful antiques all over this fair isle from time to time but mainly to the shops and locally up the motorway to blow out the cobwebs. She has saved me quite a bit on fuel over the last 18 years but she is getting dangerous and I need to find another keep til I die car. I have been looking at the 2010 to 2012 blue efficiency Diesels. I could use some advice. I am a pensioner and want to keep it down to around 10 to £12,000

Krown are worth checking out. I had them rustproof my Mustang - see here - and was very impressed with their thoroughness. They were also much cheaper than some of the alternatives.

Dinitrol is good rust inhibitor . And i would do what your thinking of doing .Mercedes will rust no mater what year it is new or old . Parts in places under the car will get rusty over time its near impossible to say all the steel is perfect before the galve treatment is applied when it is made . All the running gear is still in black chassis paint from new also the suspension along with springs steering gear etc . After the treatment you will get a warranty .

Reading this is like reading car magazines in the 70s...shame on you MB...you invented the car then rested on your Laurels.

I believe the humidity has to be over 40% for mild steel to rust. The trouble is humidity is almost never below 40% in this country.
