I have got a rear shocker gone on my ML 164, I have seen on youtube a guide on how to replace one. They have gone to the trouble of removing the boot floor and all the side panels inside the rear compartment, My thoughts are is it not possible to reach the top nuts through the side panel openings. Thanks Chris.

When I was replacing rear shockers on my R Class, I asked one of the lads in MB parts & he emailed me the MB tech instructions. It was just 3 screws & a couple of push fit clips holding the rear trim in place on each side. The 2 nuts at the top could then be accessed .... just.

Ah! Having checked your link, it became apparent that you have air suspension....

Mine is just steel springs, but hopefully the shocks will be cheaper.

Has anyone used the Monroe shocks that seem to be the most common aftermarket offering? I remember the name from many years back but if someone can say "I've had them on for 50,000 miles with no problems", I'd be interested to hear....

Paul G, sorry only just seen your post, I did them this morning, 2hrs start to finish, easy job once you have got all the panels out of the rear compartment. I got the shocks from Mercedes perth (ebay) £134 each free postage, and genuine parts. Forgot to say mine are on springs not air.

OK, it was the supplier's name

Air Suspension Specialist

That confused me!

I'm definately going to replace mine, but I'm looking for aftermarket recommendations, it's always nice if you can improve the ride/handling......well, maybe not both..
