ML270 Brake pedal

quick question in the hope that someone may be able to point me in the right direction.
My ML has started with a issue with the brake pedal. When released it sounds as if air is escaping from somewhere around the pedal area.

Any ideas what could be the cause and what the fix would be please.

The car brakes work as normal.
