A lot of ML problems at the moment!!!! Basically car is going into emergency mode, but it could be anything without more info. Have a look at the ML270 thread in the technical section and see if you can provide some more information so we can help. It may be something simple (I hope).

Thanks, The car appeares to be running fine up to 3000rpm but will not kick down or pass 3000rpm, there are no other symptoms of faults??

Maybe the "system" thinks the box is in nuetral or park? That will inhibit revs higher that what you are seeing IIRC. Another ML owner here could confirm that.
I know this is the case on other MB cars.

battery voltage is low at a guess, let it idle or take it for a drive, better still charge the battery see if that helps. Could even be the batteries had it!!!

As jib, do measure the battery voltage in the morning before you start the car, should be around 12.5 volt.

Have you tried unplugging the MAF

Had it at the dealer today (SG Mercedes Swansea) it turn out to be the maf sensor was faulty they replaced it and all is fine (for now!)
this was the dealer that did not responed to a complaint that i issued to them after they failed to identify faulty engine mounts,(vibration problem) after discussing it with them the agreed that they were in the wrong and only charged me £80.00 for the work today, nice to see dealers do have a heart!!!!
