hi, in quite new to Mercedes, I bought an ML320 cdi with a Brabus D6 a few weeks ago, I have noticed that there was traces of oil around the serpentine belt at the front of the engine, I cleaned this all off and drove the jeep for a few days, I am just after checking again and there seems to be a trace of oil coming from where a metal pipe (the pipe that runs down the centre of engine) joins into a plastic one (see pics) I would imagine this is common enough as I have read numerous threads about various oil leaks but I can't seem to find any with my problem, would it be something simple like a seal that has perished etc?? Any help/input would be very much appreciated

Hi and welcome , there is a seal that can be replaced at the join of the metal pipe and plastic section . Not changed it myself but will only be a few quid from MB . Check that the front belt hasn't been too contaminated by oil or you may need a new one as well . Did you buy from a dealer , if so get him to do it under warranty .

Hi, thanks for the quick reply, I bought it privately, by any chance do you know the name of the seal i need, I would bring the car to MB but the nearest dealer is 100miles away, if I knew the name of the part I need I could ring them and get them to post to me

I can't help with that , but I'm sure someone will help soon with the part name , I'm sure any decent garage will know , .
Where abouts do you live some members can recommend a good Independent Merc garage nearby for future help .

Finally got to take a look at the car, I ordered an o-ring of Mercedes at a cost of £16, I fitted it and after a week or so I noticed the problem was back, so I took out the new o-ring and looked closely at it, it didn't seem to fit that well so I ordered 2 of eBay at a cost of £2, they are sized 1mm thicker than the Mercedes supplied o-ring (52mm x 4mm). This seems to be a better fit and so far there is no signs of the original problem of oil coming from the joint......
