Hi All

My 1999 ML320 is a bit poorly, so I would appreciate your help / input.

Basically a month or so ago, it suddenly developed a very acute misfire, but after restarting the engine it cleared. However over the coming days it gradually lost virtually all of its power, so much so it struggled to exceed 70mph (on the motorway), and 0 – 60mph times could be measured in minutes.

On the advise of a chap with a diagnostic tool, I replaced the spark plugs and 4 of the 6 ignition coils (cyl’s 3,4,5 & 6). He also advised that I replace the MAP sensor, however I’ve since found out there isn’t one fitted.

The car now starts ok, but I have to let the engine run for about 5mins to warm up before I try to pull away. If I try to move before the engine is warm the misfire returns with a vengeance. But once moving and even on the motorway the engine is still lacking in power and struggles to rev past 3000 rpm.

I am now considering changing the oxygen sensors as the next course of action.

Any and all advise is greatly appreciated

Best regards

Andy

I think your friend meant you to replace the MAF sensor, and your car most certainly does have one.

As uncle Benz, change the MAF and it should be OK

Hi Guys

Today I parted with £89 for a new MAF, spent 5 mins fitting it, and hay presto all is now good in the world.

Many thanks for the advise.

Andy
