Hi guys , has anyone had dealings with Oponeo

Yes, time before last. pair of Falken EcoRuns from Frankfurt in 48 hours. Very good service, good price.

Local shed price matched the second pair and had them in stock.

Yeah, article is 9 pages long... too bad it is too much work to put all individual results here...

I do use those test as a base of decision when I am buying new set of tyres, but I use only part of the tests as I put no weight to the 'handling' section (test car is FWD and IMO not on par with RWD behavior on test track... too bad only rarely some German tests are done with MB or BMW cars). Sorry, had to complain agin

Sorry to hijack the thread but posted this on the general forum and have had some good replies but a quick read would be appreciated

Had my e220 cdi now for 10 weeks and done 3000 miles mixed motoring. In all other respects a fine car ride quality, economy (49 mpg) etc but most bitterly disappointed with levels of general road and ambient noise at any speed above 40, sadly not a patch in quietness compared with previous Jag S Types.

Tried different tyre pressures and swapping rears to fronts (running Continentals rear, Mich primacy front, all with around 7 mm tread still no difference.

Its as though the car has had most of its sound proofing removal has gone too far re general weight reductions to reduce emission levels.

Help required as Mercedes ownership may be short lived, if untreatable, the XF beckons I fear.

My S212 with Bridgestones (74db rated) is as quite at 70mph as my S204 with Dunlop RT's (68db) so something must be amiss and can only think it's the tyres.

When you come to replace look at Goodyear F1 A3's or Dunlop RT 2 (the RT have a better treadwear rating of 300 vs the 270 of the RT so should give better mileage).

Again new 'Tekniikan Maailma' test results, winter tyres

1. Continental ContiVikingContact6 7,6 points **
2. Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 7,5 points **
3. Goodyear UltraGripIce2 7,4 points *
3. Michelin X-ice XI3 7,4 points *
5. Bridgestone Blizzak WS80 7,0 points *
6. Sava Eskimo Ice 6,9 points *
6. Hankook Winter i*cept IZ2 6,9 points *
8. Pirelli Ice Zero FR 6,7 points
9. Landsail Winter Lander 6,5 points
9. Yokohama IceGueard ig50 plus 6,5 points
11. Nangang Ice Activa Ice-1 6,3 points

(Best studded tyre ontinental IceContact 2 8,6 points **** for comparison)

Again 15 different performance categories were compared...

Also interesting test: mid-european winter tyre (Continental TS850) was compared in braking distances to all northern tyres (Average brake distances of all brands were calculated):

50-0 km/h ice: Studded 46m, Non-stud 63m, Conti 78m
80-0 km/h snow:Studded 46m, Non-stud 63m, Conti 78m
80-0 km/h wet asphalt: Studded 41m, Non-stud 43m, Conti 31m
90-0 km/h dry asphalt: Studded 40m, Non-stud 39m, Conti 35m

So huge difference in ice/snow to asphalt conditions, northern design wins clearly in true winter conditions, mid-european model beats north when no froze.

Tekniikan Maailma newest test:

1. Nokian HakkaBlue 9,2 *****
2. Continental ContiPremiumContact5 9,1 *****
3. Michelin Primacy3 8,9 *****
4. Bridgestone Turanza T001 8,8 *****
5. Pirelli Cinturato P7 Blue 8,7 ****
6. Barum Bravuris 3HM 8,5 ****
6. Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 8,5 ****
8. Dunlop Sport BluResponse 8,3 ****
8. Hankook Ventus Prime3 8,3 ****
8. Kenda Emera A1 8,4 ****
8. Linglong GreenMax HP 010 8,3 ****

16. Davanti DX390 7,3 **
17. Falken ZIEX ZE914 Ecorun 7,2 *
18. Duraturn Mozzo Sport 6,7 no stars

Then very very interesting extra test they made; they tested wet braking distances in two temperatures; +5C and +15C (yeah, Finnish summer...)
HUGE differences found. Test was done also on two different road surface.
Example: Barum slippery asphalt cold 34,3m warm 32,6m good grip asphalt cold 27,8m warm 26,9m, but Dunlop 40,2m/34,1m and 32,7m/27,4 respectively.

Hi,
I've been using Uniroyal RainSport 2 & 3.
I'm wondering if they have been featured in these - or similar - tests ?

I started with them for the Wet Grip capabilities, and I found them excellent.
At first I had a pair of Rainsport 2 on the rear. I then put a pair of Rainsport 3 on the rear, and moved the 2's to the front.
I'm due for a pair on the front now, and was going for the 3's again.

I'd love peoples opinions of this brand/model before I do.

I still have the 3's on the rear - where they will stay, due to the wet performance.

I can't believe Continental Cont, are up with the best, in all honesty they are the worse tyre I have ever had!! I am guessing that all the tests done are on brand new tyres, therefore I would value their results with a pinch of salt. Maybe the Conti's are good brand new but 2 years down the track and 3,000 mls, they should try testing them where it matters!!! Oh well all tyres have to be graded otherwise they wouldn't be able to sell them. Anyway I don't ever look at the tyre ratings when buying, I go for looks, if it looks good, it will perform good.........As usual these are my own opinions and not to be taking in any other anyway than with a pinch of salt

I am on my second set, brilliant tyres. Plenty of people on here using them, not the greatest wearing tyre but grip particularly in the wet is fantastic

Worth checking prices from Costco and kwickfit (they do some good online deals on bigger brands) and the savings do depend greatly on what sizes you are running on.

Costco's actually have an offer on tyres at the moment on 2 or 4 tyres bought you get anything from 20 - 75 pound off depending on the size.

I always put a set of Michelins on all my cars, they last longer than any other brand IMHO, they may cost more but in the long run pay off.

I am also using URS3's, I have had them on for 1k now. Grip is excellent.
I will monitor how well they wear. Got from Camskill too, best price for 270/30/19's

Any recommendations for rear 255/45/18 on a w221. Main priority is low noise and tyre longevity as main use is gentle rural driving and occasional motorway runs.
Current tyes are Falken whihc I find slightly hard and noisy. They have done 17,000 miles and are down to 2.5/3 mm Fronts will need to follow "soon" but still at 4 mm.

Goodyear F1/efficient grip will do it for you

Uniroyal rainsport3 scored 3rd in Finnish 'Tuulilasi' magazine test. Unfortunately I have no access to detailed test results. Test is not so extensive than 'Tekniikan Maailma' test....
