Hi all,

About 500miles ago i got the mtec brake pads and ebc green pads (fronts) fitted on - they seem pretty good in terms of general road use, bit of spongy feeling when i got them fitted on but have started to get used to it. Much less brake dest.

Here comes the bad part. When i push the car and brake from 60/70mph to 20/30mph, if i do this 3/4 times and it starts to heat up - the brakes do not hold at all! I've gone back to them with this and they are blaming sticking calipers..

The colours of the pads to change drastically too. I get semi rainbow colours on it - image upload doesnt seem to work!

You do know that Green Stuff pads are meant for lighter cars under 200bhp, right..? It's the Red Stuff ceramic pads I'd have thought would be the right ones for you.

Lighter cars meaning what exactly? i was recommended those pads through MTEC actually. Mine isn't too far off 200bhp anyway..

What ever pads are used this can make no difference to the actual feel like spongy. they are a solid object and no different to any other from that point of view.

you are getting brake fade for sure, I used the green on my V70R for years with no problem, I only use the red ceramic pads now, never a problem in the 20 sets or so that I have fitted.

As I understand it, lighter cars like Honda Civics and others around the 1200-1400kg range. Your C250 is the thick end of 2000 (in fact I've just seen 2160kg all up).

I researched these for my W215 and as its 2 tons empty, Red Stuff were the correct pads to fit.

Bit shocked now.

So mtec have adviced me and made me buy something wrong?!

I did ask about the Red pads and they said it wouldn't fit my calipers.

I've got a 2011 W204 Coupe - C250 CDi

It took me about 20 seconds on the "ebcbrakeshop" website plugging in your details to get the following part nos:

Front- EBC Redstuff Brake Pads DP31989C
Rear- EBC Redstuff Brake Pads DP31990C

Not sure if you have the Sport spec'd brakes or not.

Maybe you should have asked EBC.

Just got off the phone to them and spoke to Bart - brake pads are a fine fit for mine.

Had the same with red stuff on my o/h SL, when motoring across the Pyrenees, a couple of times!!! . Like the lack of dust but if I do that trip again, I'm back to standard pads.

And there is me doing 145 MPH many times with the red and I would never use anything else but the red pads:D this is on many cars.

No doubt Malc, and I will be putting them on mine when I have time...but how often do you do repeated racing stops from high speed...several times in quick succession?

I have had many a burn up on the 303 where it leaves the M3 as a 40 mile stretch with nothing much other than road at night, high speed into rounderbouts from 99mph and out again with very heavy braking and never felt any difference with the brakes. The last burn up was with a CLS, and that did shift and we were so close, I had the edge up to 70, and he won after that. The heavy braking was where the road changes to single lane and the first one out of a rounderbout won, and heavy braking if you were behind For the last 4 years this was in the CL

EBC also suggest they are Ok for your vehicle.

Personally (and Malcolm and I will likely agree to disagree) I don't rate EBC at all from my experience (and I appreciate my experience is not the same as yours Malcolm).
My experience was brake fade and warped discs (EBC branded) when I used them. I've not used them since as a result.

This wasn't high speed stops, it was a long decent, shat myself, thought I was going to rear end the cyclist. :( Short stops from speed were fine, nothing exceptional but fine. Prolonged application was the problem.

If you have a keen nose, you can smell brakes if the overheated, I have used them in every condition possible and have never experienced anything. the other thing is I always paint my disc, if ever over heated the paint would be burnt, and mine are not ever discoloured ´.

There are many members on here that use and are very happy with them, they will not post on the subject for the wind up post on here in the past on this subject.

In the USA there are 4 firms that make ceramic pads, On the USA forums no where do you find the comments that are posted on here that do not add up to being bad pads, TMD the largest manufacture in the world and OE to Mercedes make the ceramic E pad.
