I have been looking a multicar quotes but am unsure if i need things like legal protection and courtesy car on both cars or do i just select them for one car and they cover both. I would hope i only need to buy such options once as it seems daft to buy insurance for the same thing twice.

You can skip legal completely by using a company like FreeMotorLegal (which as from the name is free).
I also never take the courtesy car as unless it's my fault I can claim from the other party (though with 5 cars between 2 of us I'm not that bothered).

As above, I never take legal or courtesy car option. I also don't like multi-car or multi-bike as you loose the individual no-claims bonus if you have to split the policy (ask me how I know...)

That must depend on the insurer .... I had 4 cars on a single multi car policy & though it was a bit of a middle for them to sort out, I eventually went elsewhere with individual no claims for the different cars and for SWMBO.

Thanks for the tip, I didn't know FreeMotorLegal existed so that has saved some money as we have 5 cars in our household.

Been with them 5 years or so. Not had to use them for an accident but on one occasion I lost my wallet. It was handed into the police station who found the free motor legal card, called them and they emailed me to inform me it was at the police station.
