Nasty Knock in My 190E 2.3

Hey everyone,

I have a 1990 190E 2.3 and I am getting a nasty knock coming from the engine. I pulled the valve cover off and tried to see if it was coming from there but I didnt see any signs of bad tappets or anything. The valves move nicely and dont make noise when i turn the car over without starting it. There is plenty of oil in the car. The knock does accelerate with the engine speed. If i rev the engine the knock gets faster. Its a lower sounding knock as opposed to a valve tick. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. I will check anything and everything.

Without meaning to be a scaremonger... you dont think it could be the big ends do you?

Do you thing the knock is at crank speed or cam?
