hello every one,

just wanted to say hi to every one

i am totally new to Mercedes and i have always had Honda's and Bmw's. i just wanted to know what the common problems are.

i have a c220 Cdi automatic saloon on 08 plate on 97 k

what are the common problems on these cars at around 100k miles?

what would you change on the car servicing wise at 100 k miles? i want to start fresh so i know what has been done to the car.

what are the auto gear box like on these?

any other things i need to look out for?

thanks in advance

Welcome
Injectors and timing chains, check service history to see if they've been done
Usual stuff, regular lube changes....

He'll be used to regular lube changes if he's a hussar ;)

Hi and welcome! Great car, lovely engine. As others, check your service history for timing chain and sprocket change, if not then you may have to get this done.

Other than that, keep her polished inside and out. Board membership requires you to polish and wax the underside of your car ;) (Joking, but we do have one member who does this!)

Howdo. if yours is an 08 it may likely be a 646 engine like mine - engine number will tell you. If so it does not have the chain issues that the 651 does.

Air filter change intervals are stupidly long. 18 quid gets you a genuine Merc one, I'd check that and change if necessary.

I'd be tempted to change the atf fluid. DIY job for around 100 quid for all the bits or a couple of hundred for an indy to do it. Box should be smooth - can be a bit slow to change in C but S should be sharper.

I actually prefer the C mode because it more likely stays in the same gear and uses torque to accelerate whereas S will change down and use revs. I may well remap mine next year to take advantage of this. Remap on a 646 can take it to just under 190bhp but 340lbft from 300.

Yep - 170 as standard. The 651 will remap from 170 to 200bhp - it's twin turbo with a bit more scope, whereas the 646 will go from 170 to just under 190.

That is interesting to know, I do feel that I could sometimes use the extra oomph.

It will be in your VIN number. Stick it on here and we will tell you , others can also tell you what options your car came with

Hello and welcome. Lots of advice and friendly members on this superb forum.

My 220CDi Estate is the same reg year as yours. I was very surprised to find the rear springs were breaking up at the end and making strange noises so they needed to be replaced at about 88,000 - apparently it's a fairly common problem.

But I've had it over three years and I love it. I just like the way it does what you want and expect with minimal fuss etc.
