I've had my new E220d for 3 weeks (1000 miles) now. Overall it's very good indeed. My economy from new has been 46mpg, I got 54 on a long run and usually 39 on the 6 mile drive to work. There is plenty of overtaking ability. The gearbox is smooth although you will notice it dropping a couple of gears when you accelerate from say 40 to 50. The kallaite green is lovely when clean and the sun is shining. The seats are very comfortable and there's tons of space. I have standard suspension and 18'' rims and the ride is excellent. The headlights (standard LEDs) are top class. The Burmester (basic version) is very powerful and clear with good tight bass. I don't think the multimedia system is as good as Audi's. I listen to music from a 64gb USB stick. You can't go back from track to album to folder. Also there is no volume display at all. The cover art only shows on some albums and there is no simple way of returning on the display to the track being played. None of these things were issues in the A6. Also the Garmin satnav can be very slow .

to recalculate if you make a wrong turn. My criticisms are small. On the whole it is a lovely comfortable car that feels like what a Merc should feel like - luxurious and cosseting and a bit special - three things the Audi wasn't.

Congrats chuckyaria on your new E Class.

I experienced a glitch with my first order. The salesman ordered the wrong spec :(:(

Hard to believe, yet true. So after a further wait I am taking delivery tomorrow - fingers crossed.

Like you, I have ordered Kallaite Green. I am not into multimedia but I believe I should be able to listen to my iPhone SE using Apple Play (I think that is what it is called).

The Mercedes Benz insurance seems expensive at £955 considering I have the maximum no claims and a clean licence. I am retired and I always garage my car. So I have taken the seven day freebie, but will shop around before deciding. Anybody care to share their insurance costs?

More after I have had some experience with it.

I found they were twice the price of other well known companies when I first got my MB.

It's a bit pointless comparing actual premiums as apart from the obvious variables - age and postcode - it also depends on how much you choose for your excess.

I use Liverpool Victoria (LV=) but find that when I suggest them people either find them very good or absolutely miles out - there seems no logic to insurance quotes.

The strange thing is, the 7 day freebie is placed with ABC, a part of LV I was told and the 12 months is placed with Aviva. My present insurer is LV.

The E Class is replacing. a C Class and incredibly LV are offering me a rebate on the E Class, despite it being in a much higher price point. Makes no sense to me, but I will obviously be remaining with LV.

Thank you Richard and good luck with your new E-Class - I'm sure you will love it. It is a pleasure to drive or be driven in and has real presence on the road. My insurance was about €500 but it's a different market here in Ireland. You would be well advised to shop around as the difference between one company and another can be huge.

I think this is common on cars with all the latest collision avoidance kit.

I've had mine for 2 weeks now, the Kallite Green changes colour in every light. It only appears green in bright sunlight and only when up close.

It showed 70.2mpg for my 180 mile commute at 61mph average on Monday. It averaged 48mpg for the first 500 miles based on fuel going in the tank. I expect it was low because I left it for Claire to drive on the school run for a week. I'll keep monitoring and report back.

Seats very very comfortable so far.

At last I have taken delivery of my E Class SE. In Kallaite Green. Options included are Premium Plus, Command Online, 360 degree camera.

Very happy with it. Superb presence on road, superb suspension. Real limousine feel to it.

My only niggle is I cannot activate Mercedes Me. The dealer was supposed to have done it, but I was told on the Website an eight digit code had been sent to my car - zilch. No idea how to get that code displayed. I had my iPhone connected via the lead with data roaming on, but still nothing.

Does anybody know whether the concierge services and the Mercedes SOS are an independent connection without need for a connected phone?

Obviously I will be visiting my dealer today to try and sort it out. A very minor niggle in comparison with everything else about the car.

More after I have had a better chance to experience it.

360 camera ?

There are 4 cameras (1 in the nose, 1 in each door mirror and 1 in the boot lid) the image is collated on the center screen to show different views including a birds eye view from above the car. Very Very handy for parking perfectly within bays and avoiding yellow lines etc.

Excellently described. There are options for different views, but I have not bothered experimenting. The default view looks great. However, I will add it to favourites, although so far, it has always come on as necessary. Also, after reversing out of a space, it switches to forward view for several seconds. A very clever design.

An update on my previous post about my glitch accessing Mercedes Me. I called Mercedes Concierge service who told me my car had not been assigned by my dealer. This has now been resolved. It seems it was because my previous order of an E Class, the one with the wrong options, had not been removed or something along those lines. Anyway, all has been fixed and I am truly thrilled with this car.

The fuel consumption is incredibly good. I am frequently achieving well over 60 MPG even on comparatively short runs. Yesterday we took a trip down the M5, stopping for a light lunch in Valentine's Restaurant in Cribbs Causeway. The traffic was horrendous. So bad we left at the next junction (J19) and proceeded down the old A370 towards Weston super Mare. Traffic was again very heavy, slowing us up considerably. So we eventually left the A370 and turned onto a minor road which was almost deserted. Taught me a lesson, At peak holiday times use the minor roads. The Navigation was excellent. It twice diverted us around really dense traffic.

The overall consumption was 51.5 MPG, which I consider excellent when the bumper to bumper, stop/start congestion is taken into account.

I am still experimenting with the multiplicity of buttons and menu options. I can say the uprated Burmester sound is superb. Clean, tight bass which extends down far deeper than almost anything else I have heard. The mid is smooth and clean and the HF very sweet. A real peach if a system.

My 180 mile took over 4.5hrs yesterday with the first 2 hours averaging 29mph, overall I finished with 58mpg which is pretty decent but 12 less than on my Monday morning run.

Pretty decent indeed, considering your average speed was way down. We had a similar experience on the motorway and at times on the A370. The West Country is very popular for holiday makers, so understandable.

One thing I forgot to mention (I believe) was how the Intelligent Lught System appears to work.

It was easiest to monitor when following a vehicle, rather than when being approached. I could see a black rectangle of darkness covering the preceding car. As the vehicle waved about through corners or up and down with undulations in the route, it followed the car precisely. In the same vein, this is what happens as a vehicle approaches. The little blue main beam light remains ON, yet nobody was flashing me. I found this quite fascinating. There I was driving along on ostensibly main beam and oncoming traffic appeared impervious to any glare.

I have not yet tested it on the motorway, but I foresee no reason why it should not be the same.

Technology, I love it.
