hi all, just thought id give you my view on my new Michelin Primacy HP - 235/45/R17 94W - E/B/70 - Summer Tire`s I had fitted yesterday, before having these fitted I had 4 cheapo nasty tyres which were on the car when I bough it, the car also had what I thought was a noisy wheel bearing........anyway, had these fitted yesterday, and only done approx. 30 miles on them, but what a difference...I don't know how many decibels the noise has dropped by, but it`s certainly a LARGE amount, it really is like the difference between night and day, hugely impressed, still at £101.00 each I WAS expecting a big improvement, as for the noise which I thought was a rear wheel bearing.........its gone, must have been one of the woosung`s or triangle tyres making the noise !
and now for a few more questions, since replacing my REAR subframe FRONT bushes, theres a creaking groaning noise from the rear (no mummies, I,ve checked!) and also when the OLD rear bushes were still in situ, I was happy with the ride, now since the lemforder bushes have been installed I find the ride not as soft as it was, mine`s the avant-garde model, can I change the wheels from 17" to 16" when the new tyres are due for replacement and put the elegance suspension on my car. all comments appreciated.

Glad to hear this. Fitted a full set of these exact tyres on my slk this weekend. Not done any mileage on them yet.

Hi Jeremy, welcome to the forum. I had Primacy HP's on my old W204 C Class, very pleased with them too. Unfortunately my current C Class is shod with Pirelli P Zero's which are a very different proposition, too noisy in my opinion. The trouble is they are near new so I have got a bit of a wait before I can change them, most likely back to Primacy's. :)

The greatest thing about being stuck with tyres you don't like, is that you can really enjoy wearing them out!

Most new tyres are quieter , I have the Michelins to.
Lower profile tyres, bigger wheels equals harder ride.
New bushes affecting ride ? suppose they might need a look at to see if they are sitting straight and nothing is untoward from the fitting process.
Changing all the suspension springs etc is not something I would do.

I changed the tyres on the front of a little Hyundai recently and in many years have never had such a difference in noise and ride, it went comparatively from a road roller to a mini limo.

In theory you could change to an Elegance suspension set up but frankly I would suspect something is not right if you find it too hard - I find my 210 Avantgarde Estate to be very smooth (and others have commented on its smoothness). Even on 19s its not unbearable.

One thing I HAVE noticed with the new Michelins, an improvement in fuel economy, low fuel light with old tyres used to come on between 370-390 ish miles, 1st tank with new tyres fitted, got 450 miles, definitely less rolling resistance with these tyres...

Just had a check on the difference between Elegance and Avantgarde. The springs are actually the same (in most cases). The difference is in the height adjustment pad - its a size thicker for Elegance.

I changed from 17 to 16 inch on my 05 CLK, tyres about 30% cheaper and I think will last longer. The ride and steering is little better.

Interesting, my previous W204 had 16" rims. My current W204 has 18" rims and is much sharper on the steering :)

I don't think the steering is any sharper, not quite so dead/wooden and a bit lighter.
