Hi everyone, just joined the forum after buying a 1993 320E. I was looking for a W124 for a while; ideally a 93 facelift model. However I found a 93/K car which had been very well maintained with lots of history/receipts. Car has done 173K(looks more like 73K) and cost £1200 which seems unbelievable value for such a great car. Most equipment seems to work but I'm not sure about the aircon. The red lights on the ec(econ?) and recirculation button seem to flash all the time. Are there any particular issues to watch on the 320 models; cars drives very well considering the mileage.

Hi Matt,

Welcome. I can't help you either but would be interested in seeing how things develop with your car. About to take receipt of a w124 1992 (J) 300E myself this weekend and I'm totally made up. Black with cream leather, no a/c but cruise control and most importantly a really strong engine (142K, just warmed up!). So, good luck with yours mate - sounds like a really good example you've got there. Perhaps we'll be comparing notes before too long. Cheers.

Certainly, they shouldn't be doing that! Having said that, my E220 needed a new condenser unit shortly after purchase, and then needed re-gassing as a result. The lights didn't flash at any point prior to (or subsequent to!) the repair, so it may be an electrical issue instead of (or as well as) an air-con one.

If the air con is working, its going to get very cold in there - if it isn't, it won't!

Absolutely right that EC is the economy setting - when the red light is on, the air-con is off!

Enjoy the car - we certainly enjoy ours.

320 issues- the M104 engine is great, but the head gaskets seem to all go on these 6-cyl petrol cars enventually, so keep an eye out. I've also heard the engine wiring can break down and cause odd problems, and the Bosch 'hot film' injection system can be tempremental.
