No preglow light?

I have a 2002 c220 cdi . I have never seen the glow plug light on, it starts no problem with a little smoke breifly. Could this be a bulb or are the glow plugs actualy working? or is this normal?

On common rail CDI's the glow plug light will extinguish almost immeadiately after flicking the ignition if all is well! If its not staying on then dont worry!!
