Hi group,

I have just bought a '00 C180 Classic. Very fine car and I am mostly very happy with it. Car has 114k and Full MBFSH to 88K and specialist there after. Only thing is, when the car is stationary with engine running, you can hear a fan in the cabin. It's noiser outside than in and if the stereo is off, you can hear it quite clearly when stationary or at traffic lights. Is this a "feature" or do I need to get it checked out? The salesman reckons it's the A/C pump that is on constantly and that is how they are made. I am unsure about this. Anyone recognise this symptom?

Many thanks

Something is not right here, the Air con pump should not run all of the time.
Is the fan on the engine or the rad.

Not sure if it is Rad or other. This starts as soon as the ignition lights come on, before the engine is started. Thing is, I have had the car in a 3 hour traffic jam, where it behaved perfectly (never heated up above half). I have taken it for many long runs and everything seems fine aside from this. I will open up the bonnet and start the car and see if I can isolate the noise. As you stand outside the car, it kind of sounds like it is breathing in.

Any thoughts, or should I try and decide where the noise is coming from first? (again, sounds like a rad fan).

many thanks

The rad fan should not come one until the engine has reached 100c, you probably have two fans, ands its the aircon fan running all the time. its all to do with the air con fault.

Further note,

I have started the car with the bonnet open, from cold. It is the fan immediately behind the radiator that comes on immediately after the engine is started.

Any thoughts,

Many thanks again!

This is not something that you can do yourself,it will have to go to a air con specialist.
