After recently been given a courtesy car ALMEIRA (yuk), was impressed by rear view mirror doing exactly what the Merc Auto dipping mirror should do, but more effectively.

Was thinking maybe fitting a flip down lens to cover this mirror to lessen the glare at night, rather like or similar to what flip down or up sunglasses can do.

Can anyone offer any solutions on this problem please ?

To be honest I've never found the MB mirror a problem? Are you sure yours works correctly?

I had an auto dim mirror on my last car like that on my R Class. I have to say though that I prefer the old fashioned manual dim like thatnon my Smarts ..... I almost always leave them dimmed even in day light.

I was thinking how the hell my S class auto dip interior mirror works at all.

it has the IR tint, the backed out std privacy glass and a very strange TV antenna buried in it - yet the auto dim is perfect - if only the idiots fitted on the left mirror as well (like they do on a BMW)

my first omega made in 95 was my the first car I had auto dim on and it was perfect - brilliantly judged, the 2000 omega was a joke, basically didn't work correctly

I'm about to retrofit on a focus and it has 3 wires (no idea what any other car has) and switches off when you select reverse. Which is very sensible and so simple to do - but I've never noticed this on any other car ?

My 99 MFL Omega had it, never sure it worked properly so tried another which worked exactly as the first one .... I just left the rear blind up.

Your Omega's auto dim cleared too when reverse was selected :)

never noticed that... it was just great on the first one.
I wonder on the omeba if a software bug left in off (reversing mode) on later cars???

I was reading on a ford forum (finding info on planned retrofit) and this bloke was ranting about auto dim and how stupid it was and that he'd rather have a manual version.... then let on had never driven a car with it before ! was a later post where he said he tried it and found it pretty useful.

To test it works cover the sensor on the back (windscreen side) when in daylight. The mirror should dim. Also when travelling at night with a car behind cover the sensor on the glass side and it should un-dim.
