My views were formed while picking the fingers of a mate's right hand out of the side netting on a Saxon, thanks to a blast bomb laid by the late Mr. McGuinness' Active Service Unit.
How were yours formed?
Mine were formed from looking at the total picture. Martin mcGuinness's views were formed by events that happened close to him. Things like the RUC (local Police force) invading Sammy Devennys home in 1969 and beating the occupants and Sammy in particular to pulp, because a group of kids who were throwing stones happened to run in thru an open door into the Devenny household.
Sammy died a few months later from his injuries.
Then again in 1972 British Paratroops shooting dead 13 innocent civilians who were on a civil rights march.
Things like that brought a lot of young people into the arms of the IRA.
It was always said that the Brits were the best recruiting agent for the Provos.
What would any of you have done had Irish, American, or even German troops shot dead 13 of your civilians in a peaceful street march.
You guys were told how it happened from a British point of view.
That there were soldiers who were shot at first, pity that has never been established as being true or even happened. But it was put out there to justify the shooting of innocent people.
Personally I've never had time for armed struggle, I do not see how anyone losing their life for piece of land can be justified.
But I also cannot see why supposedly intelligent people will not research these things, try and find out the truth, then make informed judgement.
You know the old saying Walk a mile in another guys shoes, then form your opinions based on his observations.
