Massive shout to star garage at reading. These chaps got on to me and where a massive help. There hoping to get this NOx sensor sorted through Merc and gave me a car in meantime.Great people, great garage, Mercedes uk need to take a leaf out of there book instead of fobbing people off. Fingers cross spoken to what car magazine who might look into this and do a story about this problem and the cost of your warranty just out.
I have a 2015 C300 hybrid and the engine management light came I took it back to the carshop and they said it was the nox sensor caused by the fuel going low, they have reset it twice and each time I drive on the motorway the light comes on and each time I had plenty of fuel in the car, are they fobbing me off

Argue with the MB. I know from few people in Poland and Germany that they replace the NOx sensors if the vehicle is up to 5 years old and less than 100 000km then they will do ot for free.

Doesn't look good for these cars as they get older.

I would say W205 will be reliable in terms of engine, gearbox etc. Look what is happening with VW or BMW

the whole story of these sensors, both on here, the other side... and in the states points the finger to the "FIT FOR PURPOSE" arena.. from what i gather,a good number were of dubious quality in the first place ?,and all those fitted should be subject to a recall as unfit for purpose regardless of age, there also seems to be a link with these sensors and short journeys/water in exhaust . as moisture fouling seems linked to early failures, again a design error, which the later sensors and software seem designed to mitigate ?( someone can correct me, this is the jist of what i have been reading up on the matter.) maybe the makers should label the cars " no short journeys" ! same applies to DPF . cars on longer runs seem to have longer DPF and NOX sensor life. no doubt explained at point of sale. this seems not only a benz issue tho as a benz owner thats what interests me.

I have had both Nox sensors need replacing. I'm happy to say that Mercedes UK covered the full cost including diagnostics. My car has been out of warranty for a long time, it's a 64 reg with 41k on the clock. Local dealer vaguely accepted that this is a very common problem. Apparently I was told that because my car has been serviced regularly through Mercedes-Benz, I had more chances of Mercedes uk covering the cost and they did.

2014 ML350 W166
Hello,
Sorry I am very new to forums and I am after some info.
I have a 2014 ML350 W166 3lt V6 diesel, 42klms on the clock
I got a yellow engine light on and Mercedes have told me both NOx Sensors are dead and the heater in the ADblue tank is also dead.
Car bellows toxic smoke, smells soo bad.
MB want $9K to replace these parts which to me is a complete joke.

Whats the go guys ???

If he's quoting $ I don't think he'll be able to get to Star easily.

C200 petrol 2017
Just had a nox sensor issue on my c200 petrol 17 plate. Initially went to Calcot Cars Merc specialist in Reading who did the diagnostic and recommended I go direct to Mercedes as they thought I might get it done for free. Ian at Calcot very helpful and didn’t charge me the diagnostic fee either. They gave me details of the fault code and recommended I approach Mercedes and I should suggest it be done as a goodwill gesture. I’m 4 months out of warranty. Happy to report that I went to Mercedes in Reading following Ian’s advice and gave them all the details and they diagnosed the same fault and did it for free including the diagnostic. Reckon it saved me c.£600.
Have to say very impressed with Ian at Calcot Cars for all his helpful advice and also with Steve at Mercedes Reading who pulled the strings to get the whole job done for free including diagnostic check. If you have this issue then definitely challenge Mercedes on it even if you are out of warranty. Was fearing the worse but ended up a good experience.

Hi everyone Iam new to this. Has anyone experience this problem with new type Mercedes the knots sensor. Iam so angry with Mercedes as my car just over the 3 years by a few months and only done 35 thous miles with Mercedes history and they don’t want any thing to do with it and basically said hard luck.Ive heard this is a well known fault and surely Merc should say they will fix this as it can’t be fit for use if all ready going wrong. Sensor is £350 plus then fitting seems absolutely joke this should happen on a low millage new shape car and seems they won’t me to fit the bill. Any help with which way I should go with this or if anyone else got same car and problem so maybe so put a case against them. My car 2015 c300 hybrid diesel. Thanks all.

It would seem it depends if you have FULL MERC HISTORY or not, i have tried and mercedes at bolton said they were unaware of a nox sensor issue and was told to bring it in and they would diagnose the car£160) but doubted any good will because i had some independent history and not full merc history. good luck

You need to get it properly diagnosed.
Also changing NOx sensors sometimes requires a software update at the same time.
