I'm selling a NTG2 on Ebay,
a potential buyer has asked if it comes with the anti theft code, I hadn't considered that.

Does it have one?
Will it automatically disable the unit now it has been removed?

I reinstalled the Comand to see if it still works.
The MB logo appears for a short while, wirrs and clicks a bit, then black screen.

I've read through the Comand instruction manual, and the Viano manual. There is no mention of security but the lack of function suggests otherwise,
any thoughts?

When I removed my Audio 20 NTG2 to sell it on eBay, I called MB and asked for the "radio code" - they already had copies of my V5C and DL on file, although as I changed the reg recently, they needed an updated V5C, and a passport copy (by email).

Next day I got an email advising that, the unit, serial number such and such, left factory without radio code, so nothing to worry about.

Yes, my net searches seem to suggest that Comand have no security feature, that agrees with the fact there is nothing in the manual.
A suggestion is that the CDC can cause a problem, so disconnected, again, disconnected the Comand while I had a cuppa, and still nowt.
Press the 'on' button for 10 secs to reset, still nowt.

It worked before removal, it's been sat in my dry office in a box ready for dispatch come auction end, so I guess I'm unlucky that it's thrown its hand in.
What a waste.

You can try testing with a MOST loop? Even bench-testing - that will isolate the problem?

Might be worth giving the guys at Comand online a call and asking about security and why the unit is failing to start.
I'm sure they'd be happy to give you good info before you chuck it in the bin. 01276 451579

more and more modules are coded to the car.... its all doable to change this... just if the people doing the job know how and have the kit to do it

on BMW and Fords the chassis number is in there, you just write yours in and they work. in fact hoddies can now write stuff so works with any car a unit is suitable for

the tech will change as merc intend to move towards subscription options, so car play and such wont be once when new, but annual cost

I was reading the release notes for this year's dealer software on BMW's either a bug or they are getting nasty.. it was saying the dealer software destroys units if you try to code them

I spoke to Comand online, very helpful and thanks for the pointer AMG.

The system has a CDC and telephone system. Apparently if the optic loop through these units isn't complete the result is what I am experiencing as Comand will look for 'whatever' and default as it can't see it.
I can buy a loop, £45 online, to plug in where I have removed a unit, or I guess to the back of the Comand itself?? Is this the MOST loop you mentioned GLK?

So my next step is to reconnect all as it was before I started removing the system, and apparently as long as there is no fault anywhere it should reset and go happily.

I'll let you all know.

Thanks,
The telephone has no optic as far as I can see.
Anyway all back and it was only when I tried to eject the CDC cartridge I realised there was no power to it, the fuse had popped, possibly while removing the phone.

Fuse replaced and the HU powered up, all now seems ok there.
Can't eject the CDC cartridge to try that though, looking into the cartridge it looks as though the selector arm isn't going to rest outside of the cartridge.
I guess when powered up the selector arm will try down the cartridge until it finds a CD, no CD's but it seems to have stuck on 3.
