Weighty,
I've been thinking about a catch-can for months, just need to got on with it...
Do the hoses allow the plastic engine cover to be put back on ?
I'm not worried about the aesthetics, but the cover makes a big difference to the engine noise, so I'd rather not do without it...

Unless you have been looking at my bathroom scales its" Wighty "buddy :D . No the engine cover doesn't fit at the moment , but I'm still working on can position and hoses , I'm sure it will and I will hopefully have a better fix within 2 weeks and I will update this thread then , so if you can hang on you can see me f£@k it up first !

Sorry! Spelling was never my strong point! nor observation for that matter.

I'm interested in any developments, blasting all that oily crap into the inlet manifold just feels wrong...

Changed a couple of connections and managed to get the engine cover back on . I moved the catch can to behind the front headlight it sits in a piece of hollowed out hard foam pad which I pushed into the gap .
I still may add or move a couple of zip ties that hold the black pipes , but I'm pretty pleased .
Next week I've got a 600 mile round trip to Wales and back to test it all .

I've updated the thread buddy

Very neat.

Interested to hear how much oil is in the can at the end of your trip.

My tight-fisted side would tempt me to tip any resulting oil back into the engine, but oil is so cheap these days, why risk it?

Two fingers up to the environmentalists!

Its also not just oil. There's a fair quantity of water present as well as other petroleum condensates and combustion byproducts.

......just like the rest of the oil in the engine.
Except this is more concentrated contaminants. Under normal operations engine oil will not turn to vapour readily whereas the condensates and water will.

Yep - so long as you are doing a fair share of long hot runs and not just short around town trips.

I’m guessing your saving it all!
I know you love a few litres of slippery stuff. ;)
I’m curious to know if it will separate out in a bottle/jar?
Creosote ingredient maybe?

That's funny , I had thought of keeping it , but not started yet . I don't think there will be enough to add to creosote , I'll probably just throw it over my neighbours hedge :D

Diesel oil very good with creosote / creosote substitute as it stays black for years , petrol engine oil on the other hand loses colour within two years.

I've not followed this post correctly from the start.

I thought the idea was you wanted a drip tray. So what is it you have fitted? an additional catch can inline with the engine breather ? Pipework looks too small and will clog up, I'd expect 1/2" ID bore. Also need to insulate stuff at it will fill more if it cools too much

Yes it is 1/2" ID , the same size as the existing breather tube . I will consider the idea of insulation , but I've never read anything about that in my catch can research .
When you say 'drip tray' , do you mean the salmon tin piece I've got below the turbo inlet seal , well that is still there at the moment , but I may remove it if nothing gets through from the can .
