The oil filter O ring that came with the oil filter I bought a year ago, I don't know if it was originally like this or gone off now, is it still safe to use or can it leak? should I get a new one? Its very hard to find oil filters for my car and I bought this one as spare last year Its a original oil filter that came in MB packaging form the dealer with this O ring.

Arzaam I've seen a lot of industrial rubber products that are coated like this from new when they come out of the box. Just wipe it off if you want. To reassure yourself the O-ring is OK just give it a little stretch.

okay understood thanks! I just opened the box now so I didn't know how it looked like, the dealership did all the previous changes when they had the filters so I never got to see it up close.

That looks fine to me - as said give it a little stretch to be sure (not much - you still want it to fit).

Looks like release agent from manufacture, nothing to worry about.

As above, give it a stretch, if it's perised it soon fail.

Just to reassure you both the ball joint rubbers on the new genuine MB drop link rods on the A Class came looking just like that, and the package said from Germany 27-07-2017.
.... and like yours worked fine ... no more bonk bonk noise :):)
