ok this might be helpful to a few people, is there for instance 5-6 visual
checks a buyer can do on a OM642 v6 from 06-08
The minute you look under bonnet.
Don’t just say check x or y give a short explanation of what it is and where to look for it.

Check the GP Relay is the newer type , front LHS of the engine. Grey and angular as opposed to square and black.If not ,bank on £150 ish plus fitting.

Start the car and check for engine movement from the engine mounts , loads of vids on YT.

Turbo inlet seal, make sure it is the new type and no oil is dripping from the lower part of it into the V of the motor.

Enquire about glow plugs and when (if) they have ever been changed.

Check for oil leaks from around rear of engine underneath - oil cooler seals can be an issue and very expensive to fix 8-9 hours labour

Agreed ,, but what makes this difficult is the covers fitted below cars nowadays.
I bought an 2011 350 cdi
below was dry as snuff but when the front and middle sections were dropped the gearbox was plastered in oil.

Ok looked at one this morning.
124000 mls ,oil in abundance around orange seals. Rear of front cover under engine bay when ran fingers across it was very oily. Convenience
features not available ,as I know car had not been sitting long then this was probably a battery issue.
Vibrating on reving ( gearbox or engine not 100% ) but it was one to
walk away from. Good body , rusty boot.

If when you turn the key to position 1 and then you double press the dash illuminating button (or 3 times I can't remember) , the battery charge is displayed , and continues displaying when you start the engine .

If when you turn the key to position 1 and then you double press the dash illuminating button (or 3 times I can't remember) , the battery charge is displayed , and continues displaying when you start the engine .

Yes went to temp pushed 3 times it showed 12.1 then when I started it it jumped to right hand mirror indicator
fault , probably bulb. Never checked any further.

Open oil cap, you can see chain tensioner shaft. If oil lubrication hole is visible, chain is stretched. Note that engine may rotate a bit after run and tensioner may get some loose chain, check tensioner position few times engine start/stopped

That’s the hole in left to be sure.
And that should not be visible.
So if I run for a minute then stop and wait say a minute that hole should not be visable at any time.
This is new to me thank you.

12.1 is pretty low in battery terms buddy
