Hi all

My 221 has some pretty manky caliper covers. They are a slightly odd caliper for an AMG. The pad retaining springs are also the AMG covers, see here:

IMG00567.jpg

MB want £400+ for all 4 corners which is crazy for a bit of metal.

Most of the caliper painting kits are brush on enamel type, which wont give the right look with these.

They are screwed onto the outside of the calipers on the rear of the pads.

Do you think I can get away with normal paint?

Used to have a C63...
How about a trip to your local alloy wheel refurb gurus... and get them to powder coat?

Good idea!

You think they will be able to keep the AMG logos intact?

Possibly. Worst case scenario is blank the logo off, touch-up by hand maybe?

Spray yourself, smooth-rite paint ? Hand paint the logo.

The original finish is Prime, colour, clear though. Wont look the same with a 1 stage paint.

And buying all the bits etc, might as well get them powder coated if the price is right.

I'd go with the excellent suggestion about alloy wheel refurbishers, thats a finish you'd want to keep!

Update on this, dropped them off at an alloy wheel powder coating place today.

They are going to blast them, them silver coat them in something a bit brighter (silver) than the original colour.

He is going to hand paint the AMG logo back on, but paint the /// // // bit a solid block as its too small to do by hand. I am ok with that - £100 vs £580 from MB

Probably "Hi-Power" Silver, very shiny

It's very metallic

He showed me the colour, it wasn't the chrome type, but like the Mercedes alloy wheel silver.

It is metallic not chrome, Mercedes use Wurth Silver, very close to Ford Moondust Silver, it will be a massive improvement on the flat silver on them now

I will be happy if they are close to the Brembo's on my CL. They are a bit of a let down in the looks department in comparison to the CL:

Although on mine, the caliper bit behind the plates is black not silver.
