Hi, I'm not very technical, some details wrong but looking for advice about exporting a Mercedes E220 BlueTec AMG 7G.

The car has intelligent lights that assume the kerb is on the left (UK driving) and provides full illumination whilst dipping for on-coming vehicles.

Here is my query. If you permanently export the vehicle to France can the system be re-programmed to let ILS know that the kerb is on the right? I'm assuming the European cars that have the same ILS system must have same system but programmed for left hand drive.

Unfortunately Mercedes haven't been much help so far.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Nick

I would imagine they can tell the ECU the car is in a left hand drive country.

But I think the ILS would have to be recalibrated on STAR.

Thanks. I'll contact my local garage again and see what they say. Regards, Nick

Won’t it require LHD headlamps to be fitted ?
Thought beam patterns on glass is “handed” ?

From what I understand on the modern E-Class, the headlights are either 24 or 84 (on newer models) individual LED lights. Each light is controlled separately to focus its beam on a part of the road depending on road conditions. I'm hoping the left hand emphasis can be reprogrammed to right hand drive. Waiting upon Mercedes.

An old B-Class.
Not on many of the newer systems using LEDs.
From the manual...

  • If you change the setting, conversion does not take place until the next time the vehicle is stationary.
If you set the dipped-beam headlamps for driving on the right/left, then motorway mode and the extended range foglamps are unavailable. These are only deactivated if the setting for driving on the left/right is set opposite to your vehicle's country version.
A qualified specialist workshop can set the dipped-beam headlamps for driving on the left/right.
